I've been a regular customer for about 50 years. This is the last one still open. Sadly, the landlord isn't renewing their lease. So April 23, 2024 is supposed to be their last day open. The place is always busy now since the announcement. The staff is friendly, the food comes up hot and fresh. Our favorite is the ribeye sandwich with a baked potato. Reasonably affordable.

Lovely little joint. Very sad to hear it's closing. Hope it might be able to continue as a food truck!

Vegetarian options: They have some salad options, and sides that are vegetarian. I had a salmon burger. There was no veggie burger option. The soup had a meat broth base.

With all honesty, no bias. As a 21 year old who barely found out about this place back in November. It has got to be the best burger place to eat an old fashioned burger. Everyone is so friendly and the staff are just amazing, the food itself is also spectacular!I wish I found this place sooner, I feel so bad that it's closing soon.

This 60 year old burger joint will be closing its doors forever in April 2024. Very sad to see it go. Hamburgers are excellent! Go get one before they're gone! (My fave is the mushroom jack burger). The history of San Jose is posted all over the walls...there are not many places left where you feel as if you've stepped back in time but Burger Pit is one of those places.

Service and staff are absolutely excellent, they're kind and constantly check and wait on you without expectation. Very old old school mindset, love it. Super awesome historic ambiance as well, and the pricing is VERY good.Unfortunately found the food a bit bland. Fries and onion rings are fine. Steak sandwich was a bit too boring, though tender. The burgers have a good char and are cooked exactly as you ask but they're outclassed quite easily by modern day burger joints.I'd say the food alone is 3.5 but the incredible service and historic value make it a 4.5.

Alex was my server. He made sure my chilli fries came out nice & hot. Perfectly fried crispy fries. Dare I say way better than McDonald's. I passed by a Five Guys & Chick-fil-A to dine at Burger Pit.

MY GOODNESS! This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart. Grew up eating really special meals here with my family, went to high school at Pioneer.. I have fond memories of one of the staff practicing ASL with me when I was learning as a youngster over 15 years ago, too (I think his name was Ken, and Ken, thanks man, you have no idea the wheels you set in motion that day- it was a day that changed my life and I will never forget it!) Come for the burgers, become part of the extended family. I have never seen anyone- staff or customer, frown inside this restaurant. The menu is down right comforting, delicious, and so filling! I have appreciated the consistency and quality here for 30 years. Even the way they season the food is special! So perfect! I now live a bit too far away to enjoy as frequently as I used to, but I'll be making special trips before it closes just to make sure I soak it all up. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a meal to go, too, because the next day you'll be craving it! Thank you Burger Pit for all of the food and memories.

We heard about this place on the news because they are closing after 5 decades. Please don't get us wrong. As the food was great. But it is the dirtiest place I have ever eaten. There is food all over the walls all over the blinds. The floor/carpet was extremely dirty. The place is so smoky inside because obviously the ducts or whatever that needs to be clean in a kitchen is not being clean. We ate as quickly as we could and took the rest home. The waitress was as friendly as possible and lovely. I apologized for the bad review, but it was disgusting. The atmosphere and the grossness in the bathrooms alone. After five decades you should know better than to let your establishment go like that.
