The food is great and freshly made. My wife swears by there fried fish while me & kids will go out of our way for Pupusas🤤. It's on par w/best of the Bay.

Go somewhere else if you’re looking for any flavor at all. Wife and I ordered some carne asada street tacos and i don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything so bland in my entire life. I could have been eating plain tofu for all I know. It was a total let down and I now have an answer for the worst tacos i’ve ever eaten. No joke, save your money and go elsewhere. Chipotle does better and that’s a disgrace.

1 star: large menu but when asking if there are vegetarian items (like refried beans or Spanish rice, etc made without meat or at least no pork) got very suspicious/sus responses. Which I can’t eat here again because just don’t lie or have lack of info about that kind of thing. The interior didn’t seem dirty, but it also didn’t seem clean either, which I know sounds weird, but that’s where it’s at. Pretty basic old school 1980s MacDonalds style interior. Chips and salsa is pretty much Smart & Final large pack restaurant quality items. Very large menu but when clean / clear / safe handling of ingredients is not a thing yet and ingredients honesty is not a thing yet, I can definitely see why there were a few one star reviews talking about food poisoning. Having that many types of animal products plus raw oysters and raw seafood is just complicated in handling, prepping, cooking and storing all those kinds of products correctly. Yup I have a food handlers permit. It would be better to reduce the menu down and be honest about ingredients/ have that info available for staff/customers.
Vegetarian options: Stick to what is freshly made if eating here and of course you can’t have food restrictions.
Overall good place to visit and eat if you’re looking for Salvadorian or Mexican style of food. They have a big variety of different options on their menu to choose from. Stop by sometime to enjoy some good eats!

I drive up from Monterey County weekly to have their food. Everything I have tried has been delicious! I'm a sucker for the house salsa and the Tripas Tacos! No one is better! Seriously would love a spot down here in Salinas or Seaside or even Watsonville!

It's been a while since I've eaten at a chalateco and look, the menu says roast and other meat menu... there's no good food here and you look for as real as possible and you look at this... I ordered a water that I like a lot with fruits and more ice and no flavor... sadly the flavor is declining more and more. I looked at the menu for 15 seconds and the cashier asked me... “Are you going to order or not??? What an ugly way to serve. The sauce they give is the only thing that has consistency with the chips.
