A lot of stuff on the menu is not available. The menu is very wordy, it doesn’t depict what the actual Item is. And they do not accept paper cash

This was the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in the Bay Area.
We waited more than 40 minutes to be served at a less crowded restaurant. The rice omelet was particularly poor: the rice tasted bad and had a soggy, watery texture that made it unpleasant to eat.
What was most frustrating was the response from the staff. When we shared our feedback, neither the server nor the chef showed any effort to acknowledge or address our concerns.
Although the restaurant claims to offer “Japanese-style” cuisine, we could not find any elements that reflected the quality or care typically associated with Japanese food.
Unfortunately, this is not a place we would choose to return to.

Ordered the tonkatsu bento and was surprised with the big and generous portions of everything. The tonkatsu was juicy, the salad tasted great!
We also ordered takoyaki and chicken katsu curry and they were also so good and flavorful! They're also pretty affordable too compared to the other Japanese restaurants in West SJ.

My go to Japanese curry in the South Bay. Their tonkatsu is done really well. They make each portion to order.

Consistent and delicious.
It really hits the craving for Japanese style curry.
Got the mapo tofu curry rice and a side of chicken karaoke.
1.Horrible hours, you can quite literally flip a coin to check if they are opened or not.
2.The chicken in the chicken katsu might be the driest tasteless chicken ever, felt bad for the chicken that died for this.
3.Curry is too liquidly.
For some reason when I order for delivery they cancel my order 5 min before it should have been delivered. I like the food here but why offer delivery if you have no intention of fulfilling the order. Also why not cancel sooner not an hour after the request. Doesn't leave much time to order something else when there may be time constraints for the person ordering.

On our first time dining here the vibe was a bit off, we walked in, found tables and sat ourselves down and didn't know we had to order through an ipad which we didn't know until we flagged one of the employees for water. The food was good, we liked the curry plates and extra sides we ordered. I would try and give it another try for the service.

Demiya – A Casual Spot for Japanese Curry Lovers in San Jose
Tucked into a modest storefront in San Jose, Demiya is a popular local curry house known for its Japanese-style curry rice, udon noodles, donburi, and teishoku sets. While the shop has built a strong following, especially for takeout, the dine-in experience is more of a casual, fast-food format than a full-service restaurant.
The dining space is compact, with wooden two-person tables that can be pushed together for small groups, but the layout isn’t ideal for larger gatherings. The décor is minimal but thoughtful—featuring Japanese artwork, a teapot or two, and a few playful touches like Hello Kitty plush toys.
Demiya’s menu offers a wide range of protein options including tonkatsu, chicken katsu, karaage, menchi (ground meat cutlet), tofu, nasu (eggplant), beef shabu, croquettes, and ebi (shrimp). A spicy level could be chosen with the curry option. I believe the curry rice with the fried protein could be high in calories. You can customize your meal further with toppings like mushrooms, veggies, omelet, egg, and sausage. While the variety is impressive, the prices run high considering the dishes are relatively simple and home-style in nature.
Ordering is done at the counter, and food is picked up once your name is called. Self-service water is available, and the dine-in staff presence is minimal—likely due to the team’s focus on prepping a steady stream of to-go orders. During lunch hours, even on weekdays, be prepared for a short wait in line.
If you're looking for quick, customizable Japanese comfort food, Demiya delivers on flavor and variety, though not necessarily on atmosphere or service. Best suited for a solo visit or casual lunch, especially if you're a fan of Japanese curry done right.

Currently my favorite place in San Jose for Japanese Curry. The spice blends are well balanced which makes it super enjoyable. I’m a big fan of the hamburger with cheese!
Only one thing I would like Demiya have is udon as a carb choice but that’s too little of a complaint considering how tasty this place is.

I used it like Demi’s a lot and considered it as the best katsu restaurant in the Bay Area.
However its quality has dropped significantly in the last few months and would recommend against anyone to come.
Not just the cooking technique, I think they’re using low quality and spoiled meat nowadays. Their meat tastes sour!
