Drinks were good - an essential for a tiki bar - but everything else was lacking. Said drinks arrived approximately 10 minutes AFTER the food arrived, well one person's food. The other person's food didn't get there until 10 minutes after that. Food ordered was curry fries, burger and ham/cheese sandwich. The fries were soggy from being covered in some kind of curry sauce (ok, my fault?) but the burger was extremely basic and the sandwich good, but unexceptional. Sorry this is harsh, but the drinks are $20 each. Make sure to put your money where it counts.
Sat at the bar, which is always a big service leg-up at this place. We sampled the new drink menu - all competently prepared and most very tasty. The exceptions aren't the bartender's fault either - just not my jam. It's very expensive, as usual, but they're the only game in town.
One of the best places for happy hour. We had our drinks and food brought to us very quickly. The staff was welcoming and fun. The ambiance and the decor was phenomenal and detailed. Overall a great tiki spot!
Really bad service
outdoor fire pit area is very nice!
We came to Dr. Funk for the first time today.
Sadly, it's unlikely we will return. There are 4 drinkers at the table and the only person happy with their drink is the person who drank a beer. ☹️ The drinks we ordered had no hint of fresh fruit juice, cheap alcohol, and had a medicinal taste. No tropical aspect at all. The cups were packed with ice and were small and plastic. We suspect the cups were due to the event but the charge should be 50% less. We also think maybe the ratios were off due to the cups and ice. Not really sure but at $17 a drink, you expect it to taste good. Especially from a tiki bar. We just walked away from $34 worth of no bueno and one of the drinks was consumed just because of the principle that he can't walk away.
On a positive note, the staff is very nice and cute. The food we had was very good. The mushroom curry is very flavorful. I would've liked more substance, it's mostly sauce but the flavor is really good. The spam fried rice was also very good. The spam was crispy and the flavor profile of the rice was good.
We are used to Forbidden Island in Alameda for the drink quality, so it's probably hard to go to any place with less quality but it's sad that we were so disappointed in the drinks.
The place is very very cute inside and vibrant but it just wasn't enough to bring us back. :(
Fun day. Awesome decor. Food was great except shrimp were too salty for me. Outstanding cocktails! High noise level but to be expected. All in all a great experience. A regular hangout for us :-)
We have been several times as we are nice tiki fans. The bartenders are very knowledgeable about tiki drinks (think Navy Grog) and happy to make classics that aren't on the menu or recommend creations you might like based on your taste. The bar is nice and as are the booths. I also recommend the vegetarian curry.
Great drinks. Strong drinks.
We absolutely love Dr. Funk. The drinks are so good and the vibes are so fun. However, our last several visits we have found the service to be painfully slow. We were seated for about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table. And then it was about 30 minutes between each table visit. This has been the regular pattern regardless of the crowds or if there is an event. They need to figure out the pacing of their service because it is starting to minimize the frequency of our visits and the amount we could be spending while we are there.

!!PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR TAB!!
Overpriced drinks and their math isn't right on the tab, they're literally scamming customers by tweaking their system.
This is the second time we have visited Dr. Funk. We love the tiki vibe and decorations. The food is good, but mostly "bar food." The tiki drinks are fabulous! But be sure to have a designated driver as we did as they are stronger than you think. It's a great place to go for a special event as it was our anniversary. Since it was also Easter Sunday, it was very quiet today (which was not the case last time we went!). Recommend for anyone who wants a fun and festive night out in San Jose.
The bar had a cool vibe, and the drinks were unique and well-made. I tried their signature cocktail, and it was flavorful with just the right balance of sweetness. The staff was friendly and quick with service. The only downside was that the place got pretty crowded, making it a bit difficult to find a seat. Still, it was a fun place to hang out, and I’ll likely return for another round of drinks.
Cool vibe
this is the coolest tiki bar I have ever seen! what an amazing concept and a must see for the area
