Be warned that this is NOT A RESTAURANT. Looks like a good place for birthday celebration, but if you just want to grab some food it takes way too long (no water served either).

We were in search for a hibachi restaurant in the Bay area. Not too many around based on Google Maps. We ended up going here on a Saturday night about 6pm. It wasn't too busy at all at the time but started to get busy about 30 min later. This is a typical hibachi with the same salad and miso soup to start with. The hibachi was the same as well. The cook was very entertaining and friendly. The food was not the best I had at a hibachi but it still tasted good. I ordered the chicken and scallops with fried rice. I think it needed more flavor like garlic and salt. Afterwards, they served ice cream. The flavors they had were green tea, orange, & vanilla. The vanilla tasted good.Everything was a good portion of food. I had to box the rest of mine up. Overall it was a good experience.

Honestly this place sucked and it sucked bad.Disclaimer: the Chef was REALLY nice and so was the staff that was in charge of cleaning up/picking up plates and the like.To start we had made dinner reservations for 8PM. When we arrived for our dinner reservations we were told to wait. No problem, a little wait is super fine. Well, we weren’t seated until 9:10PM. What was the point of reserving a table if the table wasn’t available? The worst part is the establishment CLOSED at 9PM. The second worst part was we didn’t get our food started on until nearly TEN (10) PM. Almost TWO (2) hours after our reservation had been reserved for.Unfortunately this establishment is unorganized, and the entire wait was in a dingy bar area that smelled like smoke and alcohol which was horrible for the children we had with us.Now because we weren’t served until nearly an hour after closing, the staff rushed us the entire time to eat and threw upset looks. Again, UNDERSTANDABLE. Except I felt that their ire was misplaced. It is clear management has no idea how to effectively and efficiently run a restaurant. It is also clear that they’re taking advantage of their staff/are short staffed to begin with.To make matters even worse the food was OK. Not close to being great but not so horrible that it was inedible. All of that for OK food.I never ever ever leave bad reviews. I firmly believe that most restaurants are allowed to have bad days. From the sounds of it however, House of Genji does this regularly.Management needs a big wake up call and to not over book on nights they cannot handle the volume of customers they are getting. That OR cut off walk-ins when you know you have reservations. All in all I heavily do NOT recommend House of Genji.TLDR; SAVE YOURSELF MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Food is great , The only problem I have is the smell of the sewage coming from the bathrooms, I have been going there for years they have gix the smell, you can smell it at the tables near the bathroom and also in the entrance, bar area..they need to do something about that.

We did not make reservations, and we went on a Monday at 6 pm. We were a party of 7 and had to wait 45 minutes to get a table, even though when we checked in, the guy said it would be 15 to 20 minutes. I am happy that they have a waiting area with a bar to at least passed the time. When we got called and were seated, the waitress took our orders. She gave my mom a weird look because all my mom wanted was the fried rice. We told her it was my son's birthday, and she brought a paper for us to sign, and she said she needed to see ID, but my son is a teenager who does not have ID. The decor looks outdated, and the place looks like it could use a renovation. The food was good and the chef was great.

If you want a show atmosphere while they prepare your food in front of you, this is the place to go. However, if you wish to visit with friends and family, it is not. Each table is side by side.My teriyaki chicken was salty and dry.

Outdated and smelly place, atmosphere is not fitting for a special occasion - it’s dim, low ceilings and hibachi tables are pretty crowded. Also loud. Quality of food was the most disappointing part of our visit - lack of any flavor in every meal, from chicken to calamari to fried rice. The only highlight was the the people who work here - we were very well taken care of by the polite and respectful staff, and our chef showed off all the typical tricks, to the absolute delight of children and young at heart.Kid-friendliness: Hibachi grill is a very impressive experience for kids who haven’t seen it yet.

I'm rating solely on customer service: It says call to make a reservation. I called four times and emailed 3, with no reply. When you call, it's some strange service that says "press one to continue" then it rings forever and no one answers. You can't leave a message and number in the email is not the same as on the site. If you do email though their form, you'll get a "we will contact you shortly" and they'll leave you on ghost. I was trying to reserve for a birthday and after days of trying I had to give up. This is so unfortunate. If you're closed for good, please update your site. Idk what's going on but something isn't right.
