Idly Express - Almaden

I ordered diwali special lunch for $33 i was hoping for something “special” but they just packed 6 curries in a bag and gave it to me. Does this look like worth that much ?

In general this place is ultra costly and very weird.. what kind of lunch is this ? Even the regular lunch is super costly and not that great to be honest

Not worth it.. i used to go here — but stopped now.

flavor and perfect for breakfast or a light meal in the evening.

Their dosas are equally fantastic — crispy on the outside with a generous filling of spiced potato inside. I also loved the variety they offer, from the classic masala dosa to the flavorful Benne Dosa. Their lunch options change daily, providing a comforting and hearty meal, which is my go-to on days when I don’t feel like cooking.

However, it's worth noting that Idli Express is best for takeout rather than dining in. The place is quite small, and even if you choose to eat in, they serve the food in to-go boxes, which can make the dining experience feel a bit rushed and informal.

Despite the small space, the food quality more than makes up for it.

Horrible customer service. I asked them to give a coconut chutney instead of the tomato chutney and they declined it. It’s not even asking them extra chutney, just asking them a replacement. The staff with head turban was quite rude. I used to like their food, but never going to visit this place again

This is my go to place. There are daily specials and the quality of food is amazing.

PS- Any chance for considering to open one branch in Santa Teresa? ( Saw that there are plans to open in more locations) :) we have a lot of Indians in the area looking for good Indian options and this would definitely be a success. Thanks!!

Very nice and reasonably priced fresh south Indian food for take away quite close to San Jose airport. Very fast service even at weekday lunch.

Vegetarian options: Mostly Udipi food and so all vegetarian.

Dietary restrictions: Quite gluten free as Udipi food is made of rice and/or lentils. Very low fat.

Food was burnt. Order place at 1pm given to me at 1:55 while I waited there. Most annoying experience. You should change your name to IDLI MAIL. You were taking order after order on phone, online and over the counter but unable to deliver and then served burnt inedible food. Oh and only after 40 min did I hear the man tell another customer Benne Dosa takes 20min to prepare as we prepare it fresh. Really!!!

Had tomato onion chili utthappam. Was so-so. Sambar not good. Chutney so-so. It's mostly for take out (only 2 tables outside and 1 tiny table inside). NO DOSAS at this location. Overall NOT GOOD. I'd not recommend.

LOVE THE PODI THATTE IDLY AND MOST AROMATIC FILTER COFFEE.. other items such as Tamarind Rice in the menu are equally tasty and fresh
