After getting rude service from Original Joes (next door) my mom and I decided to come here and received amazing service. The food was tasty too!

I ordered pork ribs with coleslaw and French fries. The pork ribs did not meet my standard. Maybe it's me who needs to lower my expectation of pork ribs outside of Texas.

The food was fresh perfectly seasoned & cooked!
Only issue was no prices on menu and the guy working the register got a lil snippy when I mentioned it saying “There’s no prices for a reason”.
He turned his attitude around once my fiancé entered and was pleasant the rest of the time.

I flew into San Jose for a work trip.

After checking into my hotel I decided to see what restaurants were close by.

Swipe. Swipe. Swipe. Swi….Oh!

Here comes Jackie’s Place popping up like a hot plate of my grandma Vera’s candied yams.

I’m a sucker for soul food so I figured I give this place a try even though I was a little skeptical about how different the reviews were depending on what platform I checked.

I hop in the rental, drive about 10 minutes and park in front of a meter whose screen was impossible to read.

I figure it out and walk into Jackie’s.

It was a lot bigger than I expected and had a lot more people there than I expected considering it was 2:30pm on a weekday.

I made my way to the counter and ordered the smoked brisket plate, and picked the mac and cheese + collard greens as my 2 sides.

I also ordered 4 fish fillets à la carte because I’m a fatty.

It cost $42.

My food was ready pretty fast, which made me happy since I haven’t eaten all day.

Everything looked pretty good (see photo), but after my first bite I felt my grandma Vera give me the side eye.

The tartar sauce was amazing!

If I stopped there this place would get 5⭐️…but I didn’t.

The fried fish was good, not great, but good.

The cornbread was about the same.

The smoked brisket had a decent smoke taste but no flavor. It also didn’t look like real brisket to me.

The Mac and cheese was 2 levels under ‘just ok.’

And, the collard greens were awful.

Overall, this place served soul food without the soul.

Personally, I wouldn’t go to Jackie’s again.

But, I’d suggest you try it at least once and form your own opinion.

My rating 3.75⭐️

The food was rather sad. The brisket had not great texture or flavor, the coleslaw and the chili beans were disappointing as well but not to the same degree as the brisket. The JuJu drink and the barbecue sauce were the only bright spots of the meal.

This is a casual soul food restaurant with delicious food. The greens were in point the Mac and cheese too and the fish was perfect! My husband tried the brisket as well and he said it melted in his mouth. It's clean and the staff is friendly.

I found Jacque‘s on Google maps as it was close to my hotel and I was looking for some comfort food. The person who took my order she was extremely helpful because I had a lot of questions. But there is a kiosk that you can use for speedy ordering. I ordered a chicken breast that is normally on the chicken sandwich. It was huge. The breading was crunchy and tasty and the chicken was well seasoned. The collard greens were also excellent at home. I would’ve seasoned them with pork, but they used a smoked turkey and it has a wonderful flavor and again very well seasoned. The mac & cheese was probably the best mac & cheese that I have had at a restaurant, especially kind of a fast service restaurant lots of cheese. The pasta was not overcooked. Just a really nice bite. Cornbread was good unremarkable a little on the sweet side, but overall a tremendous experience.

It was fine, the food tasted a bit under seasoned and maybe the chicken was a bit overcooked. Everything I ate here was okay, nothing was better than that.
