Once you get inside, you are transported. It’s very welcoming, comfortable and the food is delicious. You can get nearly anything as its own dish, but we do the veggie combo every time. Divine!

Everything about this place is fantastic! The staff are kind, welcoming, and attentive. The atmosphere is nice - quiet enough that you can still hear the people at your table and can talk. The food is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed everything we ordered. Parking was super easy - a free parking lot. Definitely worth adding to you must-eat spots in the South Bay.

Very friendly service.
Outstanding food. The food takes time because they clearly cook everything from scratch. It is absolutely worth the wait. Everything is so fresh and flavorful. It is always worth the 30 minute drive for us to come here.

Why do I always forget to take pics here?! I love every opportunity to visit this restaurant. I have a friend who just moved to South Bay and being able to hit this place for a late lunch or early dinner is the best! I've literally been to every Ethiopian place in the Bay area and this is my favorite! Wrote my first review on Yelp in 2022. Adding a google review to boost their signal. Classic dishes are amazing! NOT TO MISS: samussas as a starter, then kitfo, goren, and shiro. If you imbibe, the house-made honey wine (called tej; think mead) is delightful and cools the heat. Lastly, I tried the Ethiopian coffee. Omg! So good. It's bright and citrusy, with a dulce de leche overtone. Soo delicious! I horrified them by adding sugar and milk about halfway thru but it was soo good that I bought a bag of beans too!

Do not sleep on them! I'm not Ethiopian but I am a spicy foodie and this place is not one to miss!

Nice sized place with beautiful decor, nice music and ambience. I was pleasantly surprised by this because the shopping center it's in looks a bit run down. Our party of 3 shared the meat combo and veggie combo. The portion size was enough and EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS! They also have gluten-free injera! We also enjoyed delicious and beautiful chai latte. This was my 8 yr oldest first time having Ethiopian food, and she liked everything too. We will definitely come back when in the area.

Pleasant spacious atmosphere at this San Jose restaurant my wife & had lunch at for the 1st time. We had a vegetarian platter that was good for two. The ye misir wot and shiro wot were the two tastiest items & had mild spice to them. Unlike our other favorite Ethiopian restaurant Zeni, Kategna does let you swap items in the vegetarian platter so if you want shiro wot you could swap that in & remove something else. The restaurant's background music was light. Paintings of Ethiopia adorn the walls. Parking is spacious in the shopping center lot. Service was prompt & friendly.

We have tried other Ethiopian restaurants in Bay Area, this is the first time to this location. We loved it. I hope people support this kind of family owned restaurants instead of chain restaurants.

First timer trying Ethiopian food, and I feel lucky I chose Kategna. I ordered the sambusa and meat combo — the portion was generous and definitely more than enough for most people. Highly recommend!
