I had the pleasure of being served by Francesca during my recent visit to Mortar and Pestle, and I cannot say enough great things about her! She crafted some of the most amazing and unique drinks I’ve ever had—each one was a masterpiece. On top of that, we had an incredible conversation that made my experience even more memorable.
Francesca’s warmth and hospitality made me feel right at home, and it’s clear she genuinely loves what she does. Because of her, Mortar and Pestle is now a must-visit spot for me whenever I’m in town. If you’re looking for expertly made cocktails and an atmosphere that feels like home, Francesca is the bartender you need to meet.

Food and beverages are great. Service is excellent. My only gripe is the odor and the impact to clothes! If I go again I would rather sit outside or takeout but certainly no dine in. Management should do something to install more ventilation

Great bar within Curry Up Now. Atmosphere is laid back industrial with a touch of class, making it a wonderful place to pass away a few hours either solo or with friends. Had the shrimp tacos and rogan josh bowls, both of which were delicious and I’d highly recommend them. (Rogan Josh is fairly spicy with a heat that continues building. I’m a pepper head and needed to take breaks towards the end of the dish.)
Best part of the experience was Branden, who’s super fun and knowledgeable, definitely mixologist who has amazing off-menu drinks. Will definitely be returning, again.
Dietary restrictions: Staff is knowledgable about the ingredients used and it’s easy to request things be withheld.
Parking: Parking is designed for the surrounding apartment complex, so can be a little thin.

My wife, longtime friend and I recently went to Mortar and Pestle. We sat at the bar and laughed, dined and drank some amazing cocktails. Brenden and Francesca took good care of us. The food was great and the service was kick back, relaxed, but refined. I ate so fast I only had time to take a picture of dessert. Definitely another date night location for us.

In this solemn and suburban area of San Jose I've found my oasis of class and fun at Mortar and Pestle. I bring new friends whenever I can and introduce them to my favorite bartender Brenden and his protege Francesca. Always a grateful for their service and memorable craft cocktails. Recently had the vodka gimlet, my answer to a summer martini. The lamb, new to their menu is melt in your mouth and the Naan. Forget about it. Die. I will come back again and again. Thank you guys!
