This was a horrible experience so much so it seemed comical. We ordered the steak, the half chicken, a pepperoni pizza and the kids chicken tenders and bread.

There were several menus and it was hard to get them all. The bartender served us .

When we started to order she rambled off kids meals item and it made me wonder after asking for the desert menu why she would not bring us a kids menu. We had to ask two more times to get the kids drinks and she had a attitude when she went to get them I guess she thought we only needed water...the water was amazing but still

We told her we wanted the kids chicken fingers and she said there was a kids cheese pizza and I asked if pepperoni was a option and she said yes but...didn't tell us that ment we were buying the adult pizza. We could not inform our selves beacuse she wouldn't give us all the information we needed.

She brought the kids meals out first with no sauce we had to beg and stare to get sauce.

There was just two people at the bar drinking so not sure why she just stood there staring back at us.

Then she brought out the two adult meals. It's was 54$ for the steak and about 34$ for the chicken. We asked for butter and all the sauces we needed at once beacuse we knew she was never coming back .

The steak was not medium well and the chicken was super dry. The bartender said the chicken was dry beacuse we ordered the sauce in the side.....I make chicken without sauce all the time that's never dry .

The table was super wobbly and after the bartender told me they didn't have steak knives I proceeded to cut this overcooked steak with a butter knife as the table swayed back and forth..my kids plates were jumping across the table it was so bad . It was all we could do to contain laughter and tears.

She never brought the bread we ordered.

We ate about half our food and then two of my kids went back to the room beacuse even though we were all politely starting at the bar tender that was not doing anything she was just staring back not bringing a check or boxes.

When she finally decided to come over my autistic 8 year old who is as cute as a button ( seriously she has a huge brown and blonde hombre Afro) asked her if she had tissue and the lady looked her dead in the eye and said they don't have any napkins and to go to the bathroom down the long hall......

We stayed kind and positive through the entire meal beacuse it really felt like that bar tender did not want us there. We just wanted a great meal....we did feel judged and it did feel like we were being enticed to act ghetto...we faught the erge to get out of character and just accepted the $155 food bill with bad service and not so great food.

The best thing about this reservation was the hostess - a young lady who was pleasant polite and friendly The photos of the restaurant on line were clearly taken years ago and the place seemed Grubby and old. The tables outside were not laid for guests as the images and the servers were young and not very well trained. For a hotel restaurant it was poor - and the feel was honestly more of a sports bar than a restaurant. The food although not bad was also more bar food than restaurant food. I ordered a Caesar salad as an appetizer which when it came looked like it was from a packet - my wife ordered the hummus which she couldn't eat because it was so salty. I then had a burger , the fries were great but the burger looked like it came from Wendy's. The images make it look a little upmarket - the reality is that it's tired and service and food is mediocre at best. If you're looking for something a little upmarket - ( don't be fooled by the images) this is not for you. Disappointed. ☹️

I had the most perfect citrus, avocado, & macadamia nut salad at the bar and found the whole experience very enjoyable. The bartender was a consummate professional and the environment was stylish. I didn’t sample much of the menu this visit but was pleasantly surprised to have such a lovely experience after reading mixed reviews.

Understaffed for a weekend causing people being turned away for after dinner drinks or waiting a long time for anyone to acknowledge me previously for dinner. Service was terrible and I had to wave down the server just to get acknowledged even tho there were less than 10 people in the place. I Had to eat there as it is the only restaurant on site or nearby unless you have a car. French onion soup was lukewarm and cheese wasn't fully melted and cool. Had to use a knife for the cheese and chew. The salad had 3 small slices of avocado and dressing was not appropriate for the orange mandarin, goat cheese salad. Only good thing was the shrimp I paid extra for. Lastly, the chicken pesto sandwich came out with cold fries and the sandwich was cold and dry. Worth an uber to go elsewhere. Won't go back.

Our server rushed us the whole evening though we had an 8pm reservation and it was well before closing time. Created an unpleasant atmosphere like he couldn't be bothered with our patronage while we were having a beautiful family reunion with a party of 7. Hovering over us while we're signing the check/tip. Never told us his name btw. It's a shame - lovely hotel, GREAT food. Service needs people who love hosting customers.

If you are staying here at the hotel, it's the closest option. For what we paid I should have gone to High Five.

It’s good for what it is a restaurant bar that has good food and a great bar for the area at a classy nostalgic high end Hayes mansion

We were disappointed to see that breakfast was a lackluster buffet. The menu suggested something more upscale. The restaurant and grounds are gorgeous though. The service was also excellent. We'll be coming back for dinner and drinks to try again.

Terrible service menu is very small..There was a Karen arguing with the manager about a pta meeting for 20mins I couldn't even be herd by the waiter trying to take my order!!!..instead of kindly taking the conversation into another area the manager insisted on arguing with this Karen we are guest at the hotel on top of all this definitely won't be coming back here or recommending it.

Great experience set in a beautiful mansion. Had cocktails on the deck, dinner at the bar. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. I had the crab dip and the spicy salmon with wasabi crema, both were perfect. More wasabi crema next time.

Kid-friendliness: I did see families dining and childrens food options on the menu

This was not your normal hotel bar. The food was excellently prepared daily by a chef who possesses talent and vision. The bar staff were so attentive and helpful, I may adopt them both. Fresh, unique drinks and extensive knowledge of hotel and local history make this bar the go to place even for locals. I’d rather go here every night than any other restaurant in San Jose.

This is a newer restaurant at the Hayes Mansion. Very nice decor and a nice deck area where you have views of the front yard and Edenvale Garden Park. First visit to Palm and Ember. Had appetizers which were all good, but the Thai chicken skewers were a tad bit dry. Still tasty though. Waitress was very attentive. Beer was very cold. Really enjoyed the experience.

We stayed at the Hayes Mansion for 2 nights but we only ate at once at the restaurant, on a Saturday morning for breakfast. It was so overpriced and the food so poor, we never went back, not even for a drink. The cost for a breakfast buffet was $22 per person, so with a tip it was over $50 for 2 people, for an inedible "breakfast". All of the food was cold, the hash browns in particular were so cold and gross that I spit them out, the english muffin on the breakfast sandwich was hard and the coffee mediocre at best. For the cost and the type of place this is, we expected much, much more. Such a huge disappointment. Stay away.
