I and my husband are from Calgary, Canada and was around this area for some work. We stumbled upon this place while walking. My husband was skeptical as he does not like South indian food and I am die hard lover of this cuisine.
At first I was disappointed that they did not have dosa and sambar vada in their menu.

We both ordered diwali special thali (one mutton and one veg).
Bouy! This place didn't disappoint at all. Food was scrumptious. Not at all spicy. It was too much for me so i packed my left over.My husband even said that if this place was in Calgary, i would go every other week to have food.
We never found any place like this in calgary.

Also to add on, they have this menu Barcode, where while sitting on table I can order food and edit instructions. I do not have to talk to staff at all. Obviously if something you need, you can ask staff and even can make order. As an introvert, I would like to talk less and loved this concept.

If I am around this area next , I would definitely visit this place again and would recommend 👌

Bala the manager was a courteous and amazing host. Felt like going to your paati's house. The food was par excellence and the hosting even better. Highly recommend to all to try out the chatti choru dish.

The food was not really good. I didn’t feel like it was worth the money. Rice wasn’t cooked well for that satti soru.

Been here a couple of times, first time food was great, service was good. Returned second time here, went on a Sunday evening, it had a waitlist, person managing and trying to get people seated was not too friendly, looked annoyed when asked any questions, asked if they had Biryanis and was told yes, waited for our turn for almost 35 to 40 mins, got to the table(adjusted for a 2 seater when we were 3 people as we were not wanting to wait any more), once started ordering, they said they don't have Biryani. We just left without ordering as we were there for Biryanis, at least they should have said that when we were waiting.

The chatti choru was delicious and could only be beaten by serving it in an mud pot instead of brass. The ambience is warm and the staff welcoming. I was impressed with how the manager Bala and multiple staff engaged the guests in multiple Indian languages, and English.

Limited veg items. Service and ambience is good but after my dinner last night felt sick(food poisoning). Would never visit again.

Enjoyed the food - limited inventory compared to most places but thats cool. Less is more.

The various items - veg and non veg hit home.

Veg chatti choru is a no Brainer. Almost vegan minus sambar.

Non veg - mutton kizhi parotta was appa's (my dad) favorite.

Karuppu Chakra pongal - mild sweet is recommended for its uniqueness.

Bala the manager is doing well.

We are traveling from Seattle and are big fans of this restaurant. It is a must-try place in California. The food is delicious, served hot and fresh, which definitely enhances both the flavor and the overall dining experience. Mr. Bala, the manager of the restaurant, is excellent at what he does—very friendly and welcoming. He takes great care of the customers and is always polite and considerate. This is truly a must-try place in San Jose. We ate a variety of dishes and loved every one of them.

Saapaadu is a standout Tamil restaurant in the Bay Area. I would definitely recommend their Kola Urundai, Kizhi Parotta, Paneer Soda and Chati Soru. The service is also excellent and Mr Bala was an excellent host.

Bala, the Manager took care of us very well !

Satti Soru was the highlight. Street style mushroom gave nostalgic memories. Must visit if you are around this area!

I went after an year and had good food 🍛
Last year I tried chatti choru and biryani (loved it)
Now we tried veg chatti choru, plantain fry, kozhukattai, coffee and loved all of them
Chatti choru after the appetizers felt full but food was yummy and so was the service.

Thanks to Baala (manager) and your team for patience on a last customer and apologies for finishing late. We appreciate your time.
Also thank you for kind words and warm ambience and service again😊

Based on my experience here in the last few visits, food is always very tasty. Service is very good. Ambience is nice, although the seats are spaced closer.
