😍😍😍
Manny are delicious.
Best Japanese mochi in the bay. Been visiting this place since 2019. Their mochis are made fresh and yes they do go bad real fast if you don't consume them within 3-4 days. They're super soft with some chew, the perfect blend imo. I've been preordering and picking it up, they've never disappointed. Favourites are the chichi daango, yokan, and kinako.

I was finally able to purchase it on my third visit. 4 pieces for $10. Kinakomochi is a fluffy liquid. Almost a drink. The red bean paste is also elegant. The butter mochi has a Hawaiian flavor. Old-fashioned homemade taste. Healing that you no longer eat. I wonder how many people's hearts have been comforted and healed so far.

Shuei-Do has always been one of my go tos for homemade mochi in the Bay Area and even more so now that Benkyodo closed down.
Highly recommend the butter mochi, white bean mochis, Monaka, and if you’re curious to try other ones, kinako.
They do run out on the weekends and towards the end of the day.
While mochi is vegan/ gluten free, they sometimes use non gluten free and dairy ingredients.

I miss their mochi. May need to do another trip to San Jose just for this.

One of the only Japanese parts of Japantown. The rice flour mochi is so smooth and chewy that I prefer it as a standalone without any filling, ie. the chi chi dango - looks just like a Turkish Delight). They also have butter mochi which basically tastes like the kind people used to make for bake sales by pouring ? mochi flour into brownie pans.
Their bean paste, azuki whole beans, or peanut fillings are too sweet for me. But don't get me wrong, they are very traditional and finely crafted. My favorite of these would be the lima bean ones although the peanut one is said to be the most popular if you want to try that.

We were in town to get a present and of course we had to stop and get a box of our goodies we used to get every Friday. Great that you can now order before coming into town. Always really good
Delicious and reasonably priced ($20 for a box of 8) — very soft and loved the filling: our favorites were the Azuki (red bean paste) and Lima (white bean paste). My kids also loved the peanut butter and raspberry chi chi dango

$0.50 for parking 15 minutes and $2.50 a piece.
They accept credit cards and the line does go through pretty quickly.
Great manju and friendly efficient service.

A Bay Area gem. As a gosei from SoCal I grew up going to Sakuraya for manju. Now that I live in the bay, Shuei do is the best place for manju and mochi and reminds me of my childhood. These two shops are in my opinion the best in all of California for Japanese sweets.Check their facebook page for daily flavors and for store closures. (They are currently temporarily closed May 19-June 6, 2024).

Hands down the best mochi and manju I've had anywhere in the world. The mochi is the softest you'll ever have and the quality is incredible. Staff are friendly and quick. This place is an institution and we're happy to be a second generation of customers. Wish it was located in our hometown so we could visit regularly.

Butter mochi is good
Everything is so yummy! Not too sweet and flavors are perfectly balanced. Went on a Friday around 10:15am and only one person was in line ahead of us.
