I love the pastas and the drinks. Worth the wait! No wonder why people love this restaurant. Well done!

First place in the States where I’ve had soda not tasting chlorine! And the food was just AMAZING. The charbroiled chicken was cooked to perfection, and the vegetables was not too tender, just the way I love it. We shared a five layer cake for dessert. The portions are huge, so next time we’ll share one. The staff was super friendly and our waiter; Frank, has ‘it’. The charm, friendly energy and was very service minded. Some comment the service is a bit slow, and I’d have to agree, but it is very much worth the wait. Even the tap water tastes great, and I’m hard to please in that manner.?

This is touted to be a fine dining establishment & has the high prices to prove it. Our experience wasn’t even close. First of all, the main courses should arrive TOGETHER. I got my calamari steak ( which looked like frozen slabs from Costco) alone, then 5 minutes later my wife’s vegetables arrived, then my side dish a few minutes later along with her main course. By then the calamari was Luke warm at best & proved to be mediocre. It would have been better to leave it all under a heat lamp & bring it TOGETHER. Ratings: Food: C- Service: C Value: D Ambience: C (terrible acoustics) We won’t be back.

OMG! Original Joe’s is so delicious! I have been a few with friends and family. The Prime Rob is prepared to perfection and the portion is more than generous. The lasagna is mouth watering and the serving size would make Garfield one happy cat. The cheeseburger is amazing. The service is great and they take pride in what they do. They get busy so be prepared to wait for a table but it is worth the wait. Relax at the bar for a well poured cocktail. Come hi Gary because all their portion are extremely generous.

We were recommended to this place by our hotel because we wanted Italian that was within walking distance. Once we entered the establishment we got seated quickly and soon there after got water and a tea. But then it was a very long 22 minute agonizing wait for the waiter to ever acknowledge us again. He continually walked by us and never looked at us and only paying attention to the very large tables immediately across from us. Probably because they were all drinking alcohol and ordering lots of food. We each had the chicken Parmesan which was very good. Waiter asked us if you wanted bread and we said sure but I never heard that we were going to get charged $5 just to have a basket of bread. The chicken Parmesan was very tasty, hot and fresh. My wife’s salad was also very good. Everything about this place was good except the very long wait just to place our order.

This is a good place for Happy hour. Great wine selection and good nibbles as well. It is always crowded but a good kind of crowded. Good buzz, but I would recommend calling ahead for a big group. They always seem to have bigger tables reserved. Great for 2-3 people just to slip in at the bar. Always good music and sometimes even have a DJ.

I’ve been here couple a days ago solo. I’ve ordered caprese salad and minestrone. Salad was poor and it wasnt real italian caprese. Service was the worst thing! I have waited for the bill more than 30 minutes ! They didnt even say that they are sorry. I would reccomend this place as a one of a better, in North beach there is huge number of better reataurants with better prices and service.

If you're looking for trendy this is not the place for you. This place has a winning formula that has stood up to the test of time and it shows. If you want to make reservations, be certain you have your party of eight all present when you arrive. If you don't your reservation is null and void and it annoys the staff, which is completely understandable.

Late biz dinner sitting at the bar watching the action packed kitchen. Very tasty food cooked with care and attention. We watched it being cooked. Unbelievable cooperation between the cooks/chefs and waiting staff. Seamless working that is a lesson in teamwork to any business or enterprise. Very impressive restaurant with an unbelievable team - highly recommend a visit.

First of all, go hungry or don’t go. Seems like every big city has a place like this. Been there for decades. Some of the decor still in tact. Veterans in the restaurant industry doing the serving and bartending. And the guy who’s been there for ten years is the ‘rookie’. You won’t be sorry for choosing here. Not your well beaten path tourist location. Locals avoid those and at least ten knew the bartender by name in my visit. I had the prime rib—always a litmus test when offered—with a side of ravioli because it’s roots are Italian. Probably the best prime rib I’ve ever had (noted that it is ages in house with their own butcher in charge) and the ravioli…well…mouthwatering. I was trying to opt for a local good gastropub as this advertised as what the locals avoid. But do what I ask. Please don’t avoid it. And make sure and tell Dante at the bar hello. You’ll be glad you did.

Just got done eating at Original Joes in San Jose. Such a great experience (good service, real people, and good food). I had the calamari - certainly more generous than I would expect. As I was by myself, I ate at the bar. My compliments to Aryn & Dante as they made the meal so much better.

Over priced Italian diner food. Save your money! Go for ail Fornio next door at least you would get food with flavor! Over priced, poor service and terrible food.

My wife and I visited this restaurant recently with some friends and were blown away. We asked that the owners put together a menu for us and it was incredible! I had the New York Cut and it was perfect, my wife's prime rib was on target. Our friend ordered two pork chops and a side of apple sauce-who does that but it looked great. His wife ordered the chicken cacciatore and it was great (she passed it around). The brownie dessert, which we all shared, was perfect. Later the owners took us "back of house" to see how this incredible restaurant works. Best meal in a long time!

Great old time Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown with one of the most varied menus I’ve seen in years. This Joe’s has survived since 1956, through the years downtown San Jose was sketchy, to its revitalization and now through the covid pandemic. Most seating is old-style tall booths, which give space and privacy. Whether you have a preference for vegetarian or pasta or seafood, or old-school dishes like veal scallopini or liver and mushrooms, this place fits the bill. Full bar also.
