Do yourself a favor and don’t eat here.If you do, please know you risk getting sick every time. When not sick this place is pretty decent, a normal Subway. I’ve gotten food poisoning so bad that when I think back at it, it is hilarious. The people don’t understand what cross contamination is and don’t understand what pests (rats) are. Seen a rat. Seen a dude touch everything from the sandwich to the register then to the back then right back to making sandwiches. Funny that the person in front of me yelled at the worker for not putting on new gloves and person walked out. I didn’t leave, let the guy get new gloves and make my sandwich. Then boom, next day I’m literally dying.Good luck :)

Literally took forever to get my milkshake, and I'm salty about that, unlike your poorly seasoned food. The food is cheap but decent for what it's worth, but the wait was long and the main complaint I have is the fact that they took a while to give me my milkshake. I asked for it with my original order with water, and I got the water and not the milkshake. I asked the server when it would be coming out, they said there would be a wait, but I was originally okay with that. Eventually, I finish my actual food, but I literally hadn't gotten it by then. They said that I didn't order one, so I re-ordered it and decided to wait. This was a fault of the kitchen staff, not the server because they knew I ordered it but I never got it.

** THIS REVIEW IS MADE IN REGARDS TO PRE-COVID With my last visit, I am actually such a big fan of the fries. The sizes of the fries are so adorable and it's not too big or too small, unlike other burger places. Just like how the fries were a bit cheaper, the burger itself was a little bit more costly than the chili fries but it was not a big difference. A combo with fries and a drink is around $5 but $6 with tax. I remember the fries being overly salty though. The patty was more on the dry side but I thought the size of the patty was decent. They didn't really listen to my directions when I asked for no pickles and extra onions :(. Again, if you're hungry and don't have a lot of money then you can definitely get something here.

Not only did I have to WAIT for my food , it was ice cold and looked like a 3 year old assembled it . The order clerk was gabbin away and there was no one there but me . If I could give it a negative 1 I would . Terrible , I won't EVER go back ....

I've never been to this location, but if this location is anything like the ones back on the East Coast, it's one of the best burger spots. Cheap and delicious!

Supposed to be a quick fast food restaurant. Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with everything on it. The meal. Upgraded my fries to chili cheese and a shake. Overcharged me for the shake. Supposed to be $1.99 upgrade on the meal for the drink. Charged me $5.99 for an Oreo shake. I saw they had a bunch of online orders so I asked 2 times for my order so they would focus on it because I did not see the chicken on the grill. The third time I asked a different worker and she said they are going got have to remake it! Terrible. I've been waiting after class for 45 minutes now since I ordered and it's still not ready. Ordered a cookies n cream shake and the indian cash register dude charged me 6 dollars when it's suppose to be just 4. I told him but he insisted he's right.

Considering all of the options that are available in SJSU's Student Union, Steak 'n Shake is probably one of the best choices. I spent the majority of my semester eating here -- they're milkshakes are to die for. The prices are pretty good given the quantity of food that you get in return. Personally, I don't think the burgers are too oily/greasy, but the food is always flavorful. The fries are a bit thin, but if you're looking for a quick bite, it's not a bad choice. They do offer seasonal shakes, which taste really good and are definitely worth the price paid for it. Pro tip: if you want to pick up your order, you used to be able to use Tapingo, but currently (2019-2020) SJSU is using Boost to place orders ahead of time. Be warned: Boost charges a convenience fee and, while they claim to have the entire menu on their app, they don't. If you want the full menu, you have to go to Steak 'n Shake.

Yeah the other reviews are bad for a reason. This place is awful, and I'm honestly baffled as to how/why this burger chain is here at SJSU. I am a little confused as to why a place like this would even be at San Jose place. As a place that prides itself in higher quality ingredients and steak-cut hamburgers, I don't imagine many are able to afford that if you compare to other quality hamburger places like Shake Shack, In-N-Out, five guys, smash burger, etc. I came to pick up a meal for my team, and we decided to eat here since there wasn't a line. It was an awful mistake. We order a patty melt, one double hamburger, and one double cheeseburger with 3 orders of fries and a drink. I think I spent about 40 minutes of waiting for a meal that was apparently never suppose to come. According to them, they said that someone else picked up our meal. Which I guess mix-ups happen, but it's bad for them considering someone walked away with 3 hamburger combos for the price of one. So after getting the hamburger, I was pretty disappointed by it. They didn't even bother to label which one was which considering I had asked for no-cheese. On top of it, the layers of meat was pretty low. It was two smashed patties, and there wasn't a consistency since they were different sizes. Even though it was cheap, I would have rather eaten McDonalds with a double mark-up Altogether, this is a place I highly recommend avoiding.

They are very slow and are often out of ingredients.
