Had this place in my want to try list for a while. I'm so sad I've missed out on eating here sooner!! Phenomenal food, friendly and fast service. Everything you want from modern Mexican food, unique and flavorful but still true to the classics. We ordered the fried elote (I will be dreaming of this for a while), carnitas street bowl, and surf n turf burrito. The meat was incredible in each item and the flavors were bold and fresh. Loved their garlic aioli

Bomb dot com! Got a chicken bowl. Was delicious! It's inside the bar and doesn't look like much but the food was delicious. The bar itself was very clean, staff was friendly. All around great place.

Found this place via an article about the best fish tacos in the bay, and this was the only location not in SF, so decided to give it a try. Note that it's located inside a bar, with its own window for ordering. We went on a weekday night when the bar wasn't very busy. Upon ordering they told us it'd be a 20 minute wait, but really ended up being 30 minutes to get our food. Not sure why, because it wasn't busy, but there may be factors I don't know, perhaps there were lots of to-go orders or they were short-staffed, but either way, expect a wait. We ordered the cali fish taco, fish street bowl (basically the fish taco in a bowl over rice), and deep fried elote. The battered fish is definitely the best I've ever had and I loved their chipotle aioli sauce. The elote was tasty but seemed to have a bit more fried batter than actual corn kernels. Overall all of our food was delicious though and I'd definitely come back, with the right expectations regarding wait time.

Abve the basics is a modern mexican fusion restaurant that incorporates a lot of standard mexican dishes but with a more open taste to the American influences. They are located inside the bar and you can either order online or at the back (just beeline straight from the entrance and ur at the ordering window) Feel free to grab a beer separately while you wait as well! We got their bay area surf and turf burrito with steak, the guac and chips, and one of the bowls and the flavor was explosive. Lots to unpack and super flavorful all around. Overall would definitely recommend if you have a chance to check them out and if you check in on yelp you get a free order of churros! Parking might be hard cuz of the supermarket in the same plaza but lots if street parking!

This place was a pleasant surprise and am so glad I stumbled upon it. It is located inside 'Stevie's Bar & Grill'. I ordered the Pork belly tacos and deep fried corn (alote) but omitted the cojita cheese and sour cream. WOW, my taste buds were happy dancing! Fresh made corn tortillas with fried Monterey Jack cheese infused together then topped with pork belly and sprinkled with pineapple tidbits topped with an arugula sprig and some kind of delicious sauce. Best taco I've ever had. The corn chips were puffed and crispy and went great with their salsa. Now for the corn, I have never had deep fried corn before so I was so impressed at how delicious and lightly crunchy it was. Add some lemon juice and you have a lip smacking meal to brag about. I can't say enough good things about the excellent customer service. This is a hidden gem that is worth the treasure hunt

The food here is absolutely amazing! I was looking for a casual place to get lunch with my son and found it on Yelp! Right now, it is located in Steve's Bar & Grill. The ambiance was more like a typical nighttime bar, rather than casual lunch place. We got our food "to go" and it was delicious. I got the chicken bowl. I hope that they move to a different location, as it would be nice to be in a brighter, more traditional lunch spot. Will definitely be going back for the food though.

(It is located inside of Stevie's Bar & Grill) The food was amazing! We got the surf and turf burrito which didn't disappoint. We also got the fish and shrimp tacos and it had lots of flavor. The chips that came with the burrito and tacos were so good and crunchy. The person working was also very friendly.

I submitted an online inquiry to have ABVE the Basics cater a party at my home last weekend. I received a quick response back from Gabe, who was concerned that picking up a large to-go order could compromise the quality of his food. He offered to come to my home and cook the same amount of food, on-demand, for my guests. I loved the idea, and it really added a nice personalized touch to the party. Gabe was prompt, super friendly and flexible with his setup (given that it was raining and we had to move him under our porch overhang at the last minute). But above all, his food was INCREDIBLE! I'm embarrassed to admit how times I went back to his grill to ask for more... I can't speak for the brick & mortar location since I have never actually been, but if you're looking for someone to cater your next party, give Gabe a call. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to drop in on him at the SAP center next week. By then, we will have torn through all of our leftovers and craving more of his delicious tacos! Fun fact: word on the street is that Gabe also caters for our favorite NFL wide receiver.

The prices did not match the quality. We ordered the Mexican pizza and the surf and turf burrito. The photos on Yelp, that are directly from the owners, do not match what you get. The Mexican pizza was super misleading, in the photos online it looked amazing, but in reality it was canned chili in between two tostadas. It was horribly salty and honestly disgusting. The surf and turf burrito was decent, except I told the man behind the counter I had an avocado allergy so he put it on the side, but it's like the cook forgot and then tried to scoop it out, leaving remnants of avocado throughout the burrito. Super disappointed that allergies clearly are not taken seriously at this establishment. I would have rather eaten at Taco Bell. Only good thing to say is the service was phenomenal. The man behind the counter was super nice and friendly. Unfortunately that isn't enough to make us come back. Don't trust the amazing Yelp reviews, it was a 1/10.

Thought we were walking into a restaurant but, it ended up to be a Dive Bar but, the food is provided by this restaurant. Located inside Stevie's, they have a variety of food to choose from & the food was very yummy with its own twist. The guy who took our order was very friendly & helpful with any questions we had regarding our order. Free water so you don't have to ask for any. They sell different flavors of lemon aid. They give you a buzzer for when your food is ready but, they are nice enough to come out, look for your table & bring your food out to you. Prices for some of the food is a little pricy. Located inside a plaza but, parking SUKS!!! it's so busy in the plaza because there's a lot of other business that are busy. WHYYY was there only 1 Bar Tender on a Friday you legit have to stand in a line to get a drink

The boys and I come for our lunches sometimes. It's hit or miss they get your order spot on and it's gods gift to your taste buds. Sometimes you get 4 shrimps with no sauce in your surf and turf burrito and your salty that it wasn't as good as last time. Service is pretty quick it is located inside the bar so you have to deal with the noise from that. Everything we have had was really good. Chips and guac are disappointing small only thing I wouldn't order again.
