Fish and chips have to be one of my favorite foods. if it's on the menu, then I'm definitely going to get it. I've tried fish and chips variations all over the country, but it's always nice to have a local spot. The menu has a lot of options and it was so hard just to choose one thing. The staff were super friendly and patient as I was deciding what to get. There are tables inside and outside of the store, we opted to sit outside. I love the size of the fish and chips, always a great place when the quantity of food is very filling. I really enjoyed the French fries and the fried zucchini. There was so much food that I had leftovers for the next day and it was still great.

If I could give this place 6 (or more) stars I would. This place is one of the only locally-owned, non-chain, great quality places that suburban San Jose has. Their menu is very simple (fried food, mostly seafood) but they give you amazing portions for the price, with great homemade tartar sauce. The fries you get will not come with salt but I do appreciate that as some people are more sensitive to salt / need to monitor their salt intake. Although it is not a place you typically sit down to eat at, there is enough tables if you're grabbing lunch or a quick bite. The staff are friendly and often give you generous portions of fish & fries. Many other locally-owned establishments dip in quality over extended periods of operations but I have been coming consistently since 2020. The only thing I would not recommend from is ordering the coleslaw as it is very watery with not as much seasoning but if you don't mind that, it is a good pick up as well.

I have been eating here for years. Very good, high quality fish and chips. Their fried veggies and mushrooms are also very good. The shop is small but very clean and cute. They have daily specials but even without, their prices are reasonable.

I came here on Saturday night. There was plenty of parking and you could dine indoor or outdoor. I ordered fish and chips with a side of calamari. Though the fish was moist, the batter was really thick. The calamari was a bit stringy. The tartar sauce was quite bland, but I did enjoy the cocktail sauce.

Craving fish and chips so googled and discovered Tugboat Fish and Chips is near my home. Ordered 2 fish & prawns with chips and fried veggies combo (tempura style mushrooms, zucchini, onion rings and sweet potato). Everything was amazingly golden brown and crispy delicious. The food portions are large and prices are reasonable. This is definitely the spot for fantastic crispy fried fish and chips and seafood.

Tugboat is located in the same plaza as Chavez Supermarket and Dick's Sporting Goods off Blossom Hill Road. I've been there twice now, once for dining in and another for togo. Walking in, you get nice waft of oily fried goodness. The kind that will permeate your hair and clothes if you stick around for too long. The restaurant is small, about 4 two person tables and 3 four person tables, with 2 outdoor tables. They had a lot of turn around during the times I was there. You order and pay at the cashier, then they give you a number. If you dine in, you just seat yourself and get your own drinks from the soda machine. When I ordered togo, I just waited outside because I didn't want to smell like fry oil. My food came out quickly and the cashier girl was nice enough to bring it to me outside. Dining in, I still chose to sit outside. LOL. So far I've tried.. 1 PIECE FISH & CHIPS $7.75 -instead of one long piece of fried fish, I got two separate medium & small ones. I liked the fried batter, the fish was juicy and had flavor. I enjoyed dipping them into the tartar sauce mixed with malt vinegar. Fries were meh..they came out hot but the texture was so dry and dense. No salt seasoning on them either. They fry them from frozen, so not fresh. I ate only a few of the small crispy ones and tossed the rest. 3.5/5* ZUCCHINI $5.45 -zucchini was yummy, crunchy on the outside and the zucchini slice was still moist. I think they use the same batter as the fish. Came with ranch sauce. 4/5* HUSH PUPPIES $3.45 (6) -these were small, super crispy but dense. Came with ranch sauce. 3.5/5* ONION RINGS $5.75 -got this togo. I think they use the same batter as the fish too. They're freshly dipped so the onions still had a crispy veggie bite and sweetness to them. They were light and airy and stayed crispy even after cooling down. I appreciate a freshly dipped onion ring but it was a bit plain and under seasoned. Dipped them in some ranch! 3.5/5* FISH (1 PIECE) $4.95 -got thjs togo. This is considered a side. Crispy batter with a moist piece of fish. They gave me 1 medium piece of fish and a smaller piece about 1/3 of the size. It stayed crispy even after cooling down. 4/5* Overall Tugboat satisfies my fried food cravings! I have a need to get some fried food togo from there whenever my husband wants to go to Dick's.

This used to be my regular fish and chip spot when I lived in south SJ. Occasionally, still come here as there really isn't another that can compare. Quick, simple transactions, accurate, and the quality is superb. Plenty of parking. I'd suggest calling in your order as this place gets quite busy at the usual feeding times.

This small business has very delicious ? food for not a bad value. I had the shrimp and chips and I very much loved it! Friendly service and generous with the sauce didn't even charge extra. And for me that means alot! I recommend this place for sure. Small dining area so keep that in mind if you want to eat here with a group.

I've been coming here for years and after trying multiple other fish n chips spots in the bay i can honestly say this is the best. The fish is always perfectly crispy and never greasy. Ive tried almost the entire menu and have never been disappointed. The tartar sauce is unlike any other and is a highlight of this restaurant. Another major plus of this place is the amazing service, they are always very kind. The only negative is that they took their mozzarella cheesesticks off the menu a while back and that was one of my favorite items. Other than that 5 stars.
