I hadn’t been to Venus Cafe in years, but I remember it being one of my go-to late night spots for solid Chinese food. I recently decided to stop by again, excited to relive that experience, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to what I remembered.
When I walked in, I immediately noticed a strange smell inside the restaurant, which wasn’t the best first impression. I understand that prices have gone up everywhere, so that part wasn’t surprising. What was disappointing, though, was that while prices have increased, the food quality seems to have declined.
The dishes didn’t taste as fresh or flavorful as they used to, and overall the experience just felt different from what I remembered years ago. It’s honestly a letdown because I was really craving good Chinese food and was hoping this would hit the spot.
I’m hoping this was just an off day, but based on this visit, I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.

Went there for lunch. The waiters commited a few mistakes.
(1) I ordered a hot drink with no sugar but the drink came with sugar. (2) My entree was not entered to the system at all. (3) Waiters did not notice my long wait. (4) After I informed them the missing dish, they did not express my order. Another long wait.
I do not think the waiters have attitude problems since I go there all the time. Yes some waiters are more friendly than the others. I think the mistakes were due to different operation issues. Issue (1) waiter 1 verbally informs the waiter 2 the order, and waiter 2 enters to the computer system. That is error-prone. Issue (2) an express order was not placed timely to correct the mistakes (due to whatever reasons).
The food was fine.

We have been to Venus Cafe a couple of times Oder the past years and we are always satisfied with the food.
We were initially going to get take out but a few tables were open and employees were really welcoming so we decided to dine in.
Today we got their Big Brother with white sauce only and the Braised Beef Egg Noodle Soup. The soup came first so we shared it and enjoyed that while waiting for the baked item which takes longer to make. The baked item is a bit heavy so we also decided to share it. The Big Brother dish was very creamy and tasty. The chicken was very crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
The employees were very attentive, portions were generally good and food was affordable. Overall a great experience and family friendly restaurant.

Food tastes just like authentic Hong Kong Cafe food. Love it!
This restaurant has been here for a long time, I've been there maybe 3 times, but this will probably be my last time.
It's very narrow inside, and the tables are right next to the tables next to them.
I ordered Lemonade, but it came with a cup of sugar water + lemon slices for $5.95 (see picture ), the fried instant noodles were OK, but the pork chop was very thin $17.95 . The seafood puff soup not only took a long time to wait, but the soup inside was canned + two pcs shrimps, two pieces of squid $ 14.75 .
Near home. Prices are above average. Portions are smaller now.
This establishment is a Hong Kong-style café, reminiscent of similar venues found in Los Angeles. It features a menu that offers a fusion of traditional Chinese and Western-style dishes, typical of the Hong Kong dining experience.
While exploring the menu, I faced the challenge of choosing from a wide array of appealing dishes. Ultimately, I opted for the baked pork chop, which closely resembled my previous experiences and was quite enjoyable. Additionally, we ordered the Hainan chicken rice, a dish where the quality of the rice is crucial. While it was satisfactory, it didn't quite meet the standard of what I had previously tasted in LA. Another noodle dish we tried was also quite good.
As I currently reside outside of the West Coast, I may not have the opportunity to return. However, for those who live in the area and are seeking authentic Hong Kong café cuisine, this restaurant is worth a visit.
My goto Hong Kong style cafe. They offer a five set menu made up of an entree and a drink. We always find something we like. We also like the Hainan chicken rice in the menu. During these inflationary times, we come here two or more times a month for good food at a reasonable price. It is our cafe. You ?

Everything is great just a bit too salty. I will go back again but will tell them to do my food less salty.

Love, love Venus. My family’s favorite place. Highly recommend the baked pork chop rice, it’s a Hong Kong classic, and I love the baked spaghetti too. Also the gravy style beef chow fun, beef stew with rice noodles soup, XO rice rolls if they have it, and the pan fried noodles with pork and bean sprouts. Is your mouth watering yet? If you know Hong Kong cafe food, it should be!!
