Great location and food, prices are high and service is meh at best.
Great food and service
Very pricey , food was ok.
Sadly, there has not been much improvement to the food or service since our last visit. We were underwhelmed with the food. The service was less than satisfactory. The tables were sticky outside and inside. When my entree arrived the beans were cold on the plate and there was varying temperatures of the main dish. The food portions were skimpy. Prices have gone up! It was about four years since we last visited the restaurant because we were just as underwhelmed. Prior to that, we would visit 2-3 times a year in 20 years.
The last time the service was very bad and they did not apologize for the incident

El Maguey Mexican Restaurant never disappoints! If you’re craving delicious, authentic Mexican food, this is the place to be. The flavors are incredible, and you can really taste the love put into every dish. My personal favorites are the chilaquiles and menudo – they’re absolutely perfect! Highly recommend stopping by for a meal you won’t forget!

It looks so good online but it isn’t. The salsa tasted like marinara, which was so odd. The food was not good. No flavor. Very disappointing.

The food isn't bad, your average Cali-Mex and the waitress was friendly and helpful. We weren't super hungry and my wife and I decided to share a burrito which are pretty big THEY CHARGED US $4 TO SHARE!? Never experienced this before, I thought they were joking. A $19 burrito and you want me to pay to share it?

The most authentic Mexican food in South County. My husband had the fish ? burrito and I had the best Cesar Salad ? yummy I will be ordering that again. Portion sizes leave enough for lunch the next day. I had the Watermelon Margarita with Taquine on the rim and had the regular with salt. Good drinks too!

Been here a few times and today is the last. Staff was beyond rude! My friend ordered the huevos rancheros and didn't notice it came covered in cotija cheese. When the server brought it out he very politely asked if they could remove it. She fires back with "it says it on the menu!" He apologetically says he missed it or he would have asked for it to be left off. Another server, possibly the manager, comes over and first thing she asks is "so what do you want us to do?" Seriously? Customer service is non-existent. All you have to say is let me fix that for you, no problem. The food is decent but it's not worth being made to feel like you're stupid or wasting their time. $22 dollars for 2 OJ's?! Guacamole was brought out without us ordering it and was $9. If we'd read the menu and actually ordered it, we'd have no issue paying for it. We did not tip and will never return. Also, flies all over the plates and food..
