Overrated. The food was just okay, especially compared to the BBQ options in California and other states. The ribs were dry, and the brisket lacked the tenderness and juiciness you’d expect at this price point. Overall, it felt very expensive for the quality delivered.
We visited on a Saturday around 5 p.m., and the outdoor area was poorly lit—there were no lights on, so we had to use our phone flashlights just to see. The experience didn’t match the hype or the cost.

I am a HUGE fan of Heritage!! There’s nothing like the flavor and tenderness of the brisket ! And the beans… YUM!! The long line adds to the appeal but I always seem to miss it going on a Wednesday or Thursday.
The menu is broad and quite sophisticated and the Micheladas are to die for!!! Love the outdoor atmosphere and hope that there new seating area continues the charm!

We waited about 45 min in line, starting at 2PM on a Sunday afternoon.
It was worth it. We got the brisket, pulled pork, tri tip, Mac and cheese, and spicy cucumbers. The meats were cooked to perfection. The Mac and cheese was some of the best I have ever had. The spicy cucumbers were super yummy as well.
I would 10/10 get everything thing again.
Staff was pleasant and did not treat us at all as an inconvenience. Keep it up, Heritage BBQ!!

This was a great find. Driving by and saw a line up of people which was intriguing. Got in line and ordered brisquet and mac’n’cheese. Both were amazing! The brisquet was mouth watering and the cheese had a uniquely different taste that was delicious. Great outdoor seating area, friendly service, and clean washrooms. Would definitely go out of my way to eat here.

We’re locals in San Juan and have always wanted to try Heritage BBQ, but the long lines usually kept us away. One day while riding our bikes through town, we noticed there was no wait, so we decided it was finally time to give it a try.
The food was good and flavorful, but for the price, it didn’t quite wow us. I was also a little disappointed that they only serve beer and wine—I was really hoping to order a margarita to go with the meal.
Overall, it was a solid experience and definitely worth trying at least once, but there’s a bit of room for improvement.

The best Texas BBQ in California. Everything is good. Everything. Must have the brisket. The staff there are so friendly and helpful. Yeah, the lines can be long but it is worth the wait. You will not be disappointed.

It was at holiday time so maybe it was just a bad day. Decent brisket but lame sauce. Only one kind. The pastrami Rubin was so salty it was barely edible. And it was sorely lacking in thousand island dressing. The everything potatoes was just a lame baked potato. Overall disappoint for a overhyped bbq place.
I will say I have eaten bbq all over so maybe I am spoiled. But this was just lame

Pros: good brisket, cucumbers, food is served fast after placing order
Cons: not kid friendly…. Meaning no high chairs (??????? Why don’t they have them?), I didn’t see any changing stations, 2 hour wait even though we got there before opening on a Saturday. At times we only saw one person taking orders which I thought was really ridiculous?
Would never come here again with a wait… to me, Nothing is worth a 2 hour wait. A line down the street and one person taking orders is just bad business
Also right now, half of their property is under construction so they have HALF the seating capacity they normally have. That could be why they’re slowing down orders so they won’t be out of tables? Either way. Not worth it if there’s a line. If no line- sure, go for it!

Took out-of-town folks to here to experience a fine, damn delicious bbq that OC offers plus experience the town. The line is long on weekend of course (as always) but you can get drinks while you wait. Took us about 45mins to get to the front for ordering. And got the foods within 3-5mins. Great selection of craft beers and sodas. Outdoor seating only (small not big and some are shareable. Friendly, cheerful, funny and helpful staff. Parking can be tough. Street parkings are free but limited time, there are couple parking lots and garage (5-10mins walk) with pay and free. You will enjoy the foods, drinks, and the services for sure.

Great busy spot for some delicious bbq. Large party of 13 on a Sunday afternoon. Waited only 10 minutes to order and had a table right after. Great spot close to the mission and old town. Definitely should be on your list at a meat lover!

Excellent quality BBQ served in a great atmosphere. Lots of beers to choose from. Of note was the dunkel from South O brewery in Oceanside.
The food here is highly recommended and I particularly liked the brisket, ribs and Mac & cheese.
This is a ‘do not miss’ place to eat.
