THE BEST RAISED CHOCOLATE DONUT IVE EVER HAD.
The owners are motivating, positive, and considerate to all their customers and staff. The donuts are amazing, they even have gluten free donuts too.

I’ve been to a lot of doughnut shops in my time, but nothing prepared me for the cosmic sugar wave that is J.D. Flannel. You don’t just eat here… you experience here.
It started with the smell, like cinnamon clouds decided to hang out on Earth for a while. I walk in, and it’s chaos in the most beautiful way: the staff is launching doughnut holes through the air like sugary meteors, perfect spirals, straight out the door and into the open windows of passing cars. I swear I saw a dude in a Prius catch one in his mouth at 35mph without even slowing down. Legendary.

I grab my maple bacon masterpiece, but out on the patio I notice a lady straight-up weeping into her coffee. That’s when the hero emerges… a staff legend named Waffles Vanriverside. This guy walks out in slow motion (like, actual slow motion, I think they had a fan blowing his apron for dramatic effect) and gives her the bear hug of the century. Not just a “hey there” hug… nah, this was the kind of hug that rewires your brain chemistry. She looked up mid-hug and said, “Wait… is it Tuesday or October?” Then, without a word, they hopped on a tandem beach cruiser, rode west toward the horizon, and disappeared into the golden glow of the setting sun.

I took a bite of my doughnut at that moment, and I’m not kidding… I heard faint whale songs and the distant crash of waves. J.D. Flannel isn’t just a doughnut shop. It is a portal to a sweeter, weirder, better reality!

Five stars, bro. Would catch this doughnut wave again.

We spent the day in SJC and had to stop by this donut shop that was voted Best in CA by Yelp.

I wouldn’t say they are the best according to my taste buds and preference but they were good. It’s gourmet donuts with special flavors in line with shops like Voodoo, Donut bar, Sidecar and Nomad.

I prefer a simple sugar or glazed donut so I picked something as close to simple as possible. We got the blueberry lemon and the buttermilk old fashioned.

The buttermilk old fashioned had that glazed exterior and crispy edges. Flavor and texture reminded me of eating donut holes. The blueberry lemon was the opposite, it was soft, dense like cake batter with a very distinct sweet and tart flavor from the blueberry lemon zest glazed.

They got gluten free options and coffee choices.

There were no lines when we arrived. The owner was there greeting people. Plenty of parking in this plaza.

Really good doughnuts just a bit pricey but I'm from the Midwest where doughnuts are still under $2 not almost $5 each

These are not good donuts. We got one of everything that wasn’t gluten free—the cake donuts are overly greasy, the filled one had very little filling, they were super heavy with no substance. They were also like $5 a pop. I fear everyone is leaving good reviews because of how much money they dropped. The lemon blueberry was not bad

Loved everything about this place. My wife and I wanted to try a new donut place we haven’t been to and they did not disappoint. Before we entered they had some great country pop playing and as we entered we were immediately greeted by big smiles and warm welcome. The owner helped us and seemed genuinely interested in us and made sure we were cared for and even came outside to check on us and make sure everything was good. He even came out with a free very freshly made donut to make sure we got the best experience. He was extremely friendly and it’s sad to say customer service like this is becoming more and more rare so it was refreshing. Donuts are delicious. I love the flavor selections too. I wanted to get everything because each flavor seemed so enticing. The gluten free options were great and tasted just as good as the non gluten free. I also appreciated that the owner said they make the gluten free batch in a completely separate area/bin/etc (sorry I forgot the exact phrase he used but you can tell he took gluten allergies seriously). All in all I’d definitely come here again.

My wife has been telling me about this place for several months and I finally got a chance to stop by. This is a premium craft doughnut shop that caters to those who know good doughnuts from your everyday winchell's.. And while JD Flannel Doughnuts is legit, its clear from my perspective that they're making a conscious effort to copy Sidecar doughnuts in nearby CostaMesa. Almost every doughnut they sell mimics a doughnut at Sidecar, even going so far as packaging the doughnuts in near identical packaging. Having said that, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, the doughnuts are delicious, fresh and they have a good selection.

The browned butter GF donut was my favorite of this bunch. It was the best donut that I’ve ever had. All of the flavors were good. My second favorite was the pumpkin spice. A must try in OC!!

Gluten Free and GF/Vegan donuts that taste amazing! Rotating monthly flavors so you never get board. It gets busy but the line moves quick. Great staff.

Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free and Gluten Free/Vegan options. Not a celiac safe space, but if you aren't as vigilant about cross-contamination, it's delicious.

Delicious donuts! Served warm and fresh made from scratch. Plenty of flavor selections including their newest seasonal donuts pumpkin spice, blueberry maple, crumble, raspberry corn cake, and apple. The staff are so friendly and the owners are there working and engaging with their loyal customers. Today they were talking with us in line and gave the kids donut stickers. Love this place.
