The poki Bowl with Yellow tail and cucumber was delightful. My water was refilled a couple of times and the staff was attentive. They kept me informed about the status of my dinner. Yum!

Sunday July 17 8:45PM Shin’s ‘$h!+’ Sushi! Are you jonesin’ for a night of horrific service, disgusting food and sake slamming chefs macerating your sushi and sashimi order with serrated knives, to the tune of $103.87 not to mention the frustration of an incomplete order, lukewarm “HOT” sake, a dude wait staff that calls females “guys” and who is so unaware of his tables that when a couple leaves after 15 minutes of being ignored and a group of three people walk out the door for the same reason he takes no notice!!! Worse still another couple is seated at the table and NONE of the tableware is replaced with clean glasses or napkins!!! If so, then SHIN’s is definitely the place for you!! UNDOUBTEDLY THE WORST SERVICE and WORST FOOD in SLO if not on the Central Coast. After patiently waiting for 25 minutes for the Sapporo and “HOT” sake that we ordered when we were seated we caught the attention of the male server and asked if our beverages could be brought. The sake was unacceptably lukewarm so we caught the male servers attention again and he took away the undesirable sake and brought a carafe of hot sake. He then nonchalantly turned to the table alongside ours and proceeded to take the order of the four people at that table who had arrived 15 minutes after we entered!!!! My companion brought the incident to male waiter’s attention and he promised to place our order ahead of the other guests. After waiting another interminable period of time and while watching the chefs slam sake we queried about when our order of appetizers might arrive. The appetizers and certain items of the meal were doled out in confusing order. Sadly the teensy weensy rectangle of rice under the shredded nigiri was puke worthy. The rice tasted like it had been cooked and then sat dehydrating in cold storage UNwrapped. We think the gyozo was from the frozen food section of Costco. It was absolutely not traditional gyozo. The nigiri appeared to have been butchered with a serrated knife. As for presentation a barfworthy ZERO for appearance. The sashimi was never delivered until I convinced waiter dude to read the menu and even then he had to verify the order with the “chef”. It was swiftly brought to the table accompanied by bumbled apologies. To add insult to the hour and a half of abysmal service, none of the used table service was cleared, we were NEVER asked how the meal was or if we desired more beverages or a dessert. In fact- the experience was a fiasco of failed service, frustration, and as I write prayers that I don’t wake up in the middle of the night having to t’rup!!! Oh, one last mention, the filthy worn menus should have been a giveaway that we were in for a most unusual experience. The ONE star rating is for the bottled SAPPORO! Superior as always.

The proportions were small, even the muscles were small as well, suspicious from how close to the ocean this restaurant is. Although they gave a free refill for one drink- keyword one. It wasn't at all good for the price. The taste was barely passing for the eel roll. Just overall, not enough to make us full or satisfied. The wait time was fine, and there's was no problematic or mean employees, but would not come here again.

On a short trip to San Luis Obispo, we decided to eat dinner at Shin's Sushi (formerly known as Aisuru Sushi + Sake Bar). The restaurant, located adjacent to the historic Fremont Theater in downtown San Luis Obispo, serves a variety of authentic sushi and Japanese dishes for lunch and dinner (with chopsticks, of course!). Upon our arrival, a host greeted us and asked us to choose between take-out and dine-in service. We chose to sit down, and our waiter momentarily brought out water and took our drink orders. The restaurant was not extremely crowded for our early-evening dinner, and there was space, particularly near the back of the restaurant, that appeared able to accommodate large groups. We ordered two fresh rolls, finding it hard to choose between the dozen listed on the menu, and a Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. We ordered the Fireball roll, which included tuna, crab meat, and avocado, and the Alaskan roll, the restaurant's take on a classic California roll topped with salmon and several other ingredients. Shin's also featured a large drink menu, in addition to a variety of appetizers. Our food came out promptly, and all the dishes tasted great. The Chicken Teriyaki Bowl was nicely seasoned, and the chicken and rice inside tasted fresh and moist. Both of the rolls tasted good, although we preferred the Alaskan roll, especially the salmon skin, which was a nice surprise we hadn't caught while looking over the menu. Throughout the meal, two staff members regularly checked on us. At one point, we did notice that the masago (fish eggs) were missing from the sushi, but when we notified our waiter, Jiwon, she was quick to bring a serving out to the table. Other than the minor detail, our orders came out correctly and tasted great. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Shin's Sushi. The food, combined with the prompt and friendly wait staff, made for a very good experience. Location-wise, the restaurant was also an easy walk from San Luis Obispo's "Hotel Row," while also being the perfect kickoff spot to walk through downtown San Luis Obispo.

Everything was delicious but they were understaffed for how busy they were and still continued to bring more tables outside when they couldn’t handle the amount of tables they already had filled. There was even an employee (not working tonight) that was there with a group of friends that had to leave his dinner to help them handle the amount of tables they had.

Aisuru is now Shin's sushis. It's our to go when we want more "fun" Japanese food and a cheaper bill than Goshi (that we also adore but not on the same level). The rolls are great, ramen is good, their poke is amazing and the staff is very polite and helpful. The waiting time is always fair, generally it's ready in 30/35 minutes.You can either dine outside or to go. We always take to go and the bill is fair every time. It's worth noting that their food is still good the next day and every the day after that, if you have any leftovers.And one time, they forgot my husband's teriyaki beef, we called them and they apologized, the next time we came by, they remembered us and offered us the same meal free of charge.

Probably eaten here dozens of times dating back to when it was called shins. Recently it got some interior design work, while the food got more expensive and greasy, with rude even threatening customer service. I ended up doing a bunch of research and realized there are some 50 derelict nuclear reactors in the ocean in addition to 30 years of nuclear waste dumping that is still down there. It's horrifying. Fukushima was nothing! It's not mercury! Probably best to skip seafood until it gets cleaned up.
