Google maps menu needs to be updated. Shows a bagel with lox as $4.75, actually cost $14.00. Took 40 minutes to get our order. Seems too long for a bagel, even if it was busy. Food was good overall.

Honestly the food is okay as long as you are okay with rude staff and waiting for way too long to get your food. The lady that took my order made me feel like I was ruining her day for getting a bagel at a bagel restaurant. I don’t usually do reviews but honestly there are a lot of other places in SLO that have better food and service. If you are reading this go to the other places.

Overall, food was okay. They didn’t put cream cheese on one of our bagels and considering the price, that was disappointing. Not to mention, service was horrid, no one in there seemed to enjoy their job and made sure to project their bad moods onto the atmosphere. Overall, don’t recommend unless you want an overpriced bagel served with a frown.
Bagels are good but it takes an eternity to get them

Only bagel place in town and it’s known to have a long wait time so we planned ahead, giving ourselves ample time prior to our appointment. What I didn’t factor in was the “beeper” we were giving upon ordering didn’t work. After watching numerous people who ordered after us get their food, I finally risked being a “Karen” and dared to politely inquire about our order. Found out it was just sitting there and either someone didn’t notify the beeper or it didn’t work. When I said I wasn’t notified, they just kind of shrugged and handed my food over. A simple “sorry” would have sufficed. I highly regret the tip I left upon ordering and will not be back.

Only in business because it's the only bagel shop in town. Overpriced, slow service, outdated atmosphere.

The girl who took our order was nice, but other the woman who served us our order was awful! The menu on the wall had blacked out prices so they have printed menus on the door with pricing. This pricing is also WRONG so when you get your receipt it’s clear you were charged a higher price. They didn’t give us everything we ordered and then argued with us when we tried to order it. The bagel sandwich was good but not worth $20

I had a frustrating experience at this bagel place. First, my group was charged more than what was listed on the menu. Then, we didn’t receive an item we thought we had ordered. When I tried to clarify, I was told we didn’t actually order it, so I said never mind. Instead of letting it go, they insisted I had to pay for it because they had already made it. Terrible customer service and unclear pricing—definitely won’t be returning!

The bagels here are some of the very best I have ever had. Perfect texture, great selection, and delicious cream cheese options.
Mentioned in other reviews, but the pricing is very off here. The price of a bagel + cream cheese is $7 which is quite steep. The menu posted above the counter has all prices covered in tape - not very transparent. The restaurant it self is dingy and nothing special. House of Bagels is the only place for bagels in the area since Broadway Bagel closed nearly 5 years ago (yes, we as a community still grieve this loss).
Overall, great bagels that cannot be overstated. All other aspects of this experience are fairly subpar.

The bagels here are good tasting and are well made, but the price for a single bagel with cream cheese is quite expensive, going for around 7.00.
If the prices were not so high I would visit much more often.

I will start this with the fact that I have been going here semi regularly for 10+ years, and I won’t be back after today. The owner is amazing and she is doing the best she possibly can in the economy she took over this restaurant in. That being said, removing prices from the visible menu that everyone looks at to place their orders and only listing them on menus that are hardly available is shady. Upon actually looking at the menu, I found that their prices have once again gone up which is understandable. What doesn’t make sense is why plain schmear costs more than the amount the bagel it goes on costs. Regular bagels are $2.50, cool, but it’s almost $6.00 for a bagel with PLAIN cream cheese. That’s insane. If I remember correctly that’s almost double the price it was just a few months ago. On top of that, the restaurant is dingy and dirty consistently and the service is lacking for how many employees are always behind the counter. Unfortunately, this is the only place to get bagels around here ever since Broadway Bagel closed down. If you’re considering this place for your next meal, don’t. You’ll leave disappointed.

They desperately need a change in management and employees. The last few times I have been here the wait time has been 30-40 minutes even though there is no one in line and they aren’t busy. The employees don’t care, move like snails, total space cadets. If you try to call in the order no one picks up the phone. The one time I did get through she immediately put me on hold, after u had been trying to get through for over ten minutes- and then the line hung up on me. Tried to call back and got a busy signal. When I got to the store no one is even in line.
The food here is really good and there isn’t another bagel shop locally that makes bagels like this- that is the Only reason I would darken the door of this place. Honestly I hate going here because the customer service is absolutely appalling. And it’s clear from the customer reviews that I am not the only one who feels this way. What used to be my favorite bagel place has now become somewhere I dread going to Becasue I know it’s going to be an ordeal just trying to get a simple bagel with cream cheese.
They are always understaffed and the staff they have doesn’t have a clue how to work effectively. They need to train people properly and completely turn around the service or this place will bend up closing. The only reason it’s surviving for now is because there isn’t anyone else serving the same kinds of bagels. If another shop were to open within a 30 min drive, they are doomed.
Also they don’t do DoorDash for pick up or delivery and forgot about getting a to go order.

Really really lackluster. For three people our total was $55. At 11am, most of their bagels and all of their bread were sold out. When we closed our transaction, we were told it would be ready in ten minutes. It took over thirty to be ready and was missing one of the bagels. I ordered a panini sandwich and was given a bagel sandwich clearly not put into a press. There were barely any customers while we were there, so it's unclear how it took so long to get our food and why it couldn't be correct when the order was so simple. The food tasted okay, not great and not bad, certainly not worth $55 and forty minutes.
