Easily has become one of our favorite takeout spots in town on the weekends. Definitely was a much needed addition to this town for high quality fast casual Hawaiian BBQ food.
We've been loving the chicken katsu, loco moco, short beef ribs, spam masubi, and mac salad here. Everything has been amazing across our several visits! The prices have been extremely reasonable for the giant portions of food we've received across all of our visits here. Parking is easy and it's in a nice lot in SLO.
The staff is always working their tails off in the kitchen every time we come in and the place is clean/inviting although we usually take the items to go. Glad to see this place in town and doing well from the looks of it!

J&L Hawaiian BBQ was an interesting place to eat. This was my first time in this restaurant.
The restaurant was easy to find and conveniently located. The parking was a little limited. (It's off street parking, just a small lot)
The food choices were plentiful. More than 30 dishes are offered. They have combinations to meet most tastes.
The food was prepared quickly. It was very flavorful! I enjoyed a chicken combo plate. The portions are very generous!! The prices are reasonable.
If you are looking for a quick meal in the SLO area, this is a good choice.

J&L fulfilled a catering order for my university club. Were ordered a wide variety and large quantity and they handled it perfectly. Extremely nice and assisted in loading my car upon pickup. The food was great.

J&L is a delicious and casual new Hawaiian barbecue spot in the old Oki Momo location (which is fondly missed by myself). Absolutely classic Hawaiian plate lunch style menu with proper mayo rich Mac salad (I love Nobu Hawaiian BBQ but their Mac salad is odd). The barbecue chicken was grilled fresh butterflied thigh and was slightly charred, moist and perfect with the sauce given in a little cup on the side. The fried fish was super crunchy and flaky, so delicious with the fluffy rice and Mac salad. I also had the crab Rangoon which were super crunchy and warm and not at all oily. This place is a must visit whether you are new to Hawaiian style barbecue or are already a big fan. The prices are also reminiscent of pre COVID days and I hope they stick around for a long time. The plates come in a huge variety of combos so you'll find one to suit your tastes.
Vegetarian options: Not a lot of vegetarian options, you would likely be stuck with a variety of tasty side dishes but may be unsatisfied.
Kid-friendliness: Very casual and kid friendly. One of the staffs' (owner?) kid was there in a basinet behind the counter. The simple fried dishes and relatively unseasoned BBQ chicken (great sauce on the side the chicken was definitely salted perfect) make easy choices for kids.
Wheelchair accessibility: Very open dining room with plenty of space to find a comfy spot.
