Dickey's Barbecue Pit

Me and my coworkers placed pick up orders for 12:00 at the one in San Marcos. I went to go pick up our orders. There was only one person working there and it took an hour to get all of our orders. Our whole lunch was wasted. I am so very upset. My coworkers were even more upset. This by far is the worse service I have ever seen. Will never order from here again

New owner for last 2 months. Doing a great job and we had a great experience even with a small hiccup in our order. Staff was proactive to resolve and owner was very involved with customers and service. Serving size was generous and the Brisket and ribs were very tasty and great fries. We will be back soon. Ordered 2 brisket chili fries, very small portion for $12 and little dicernible meat. On top of that, they presumably added a 20% tip. No where is it posted that a tip is added automatically. A total waste of $30. Very disappointed.

I took my husband here after having oral surgery nearby. Nash took excellent care of us, recommending sides that are easy to chew as well as offering to cut up the pulled pork extra fine. Great customer service!

App crashed twice when trying to enter payment. Online web browser order went through and charged but restaurant didn't receive it. Manager offered to make the food but they were "out" of ribs and the order was more than just a few items so I decided to try to get a refund as I figured it would be might be too much a hassle and I really wanted to get home. Manager couldn't guide me to get a refund on the email or app, somehow made a way for me to get the ribs still, so I decide to just try to get the food.

40 min after I was supposed to have received my order, I finally get it. But they were out of another meat and without asking they just gave me more of the meats they had that I ordered. Manager gave me a free sandwich card.

Come home to find he had forgotten two of my sides, gave me chopped instead of sliced brisket, some of the meats were really salty but still edible, and the fried okra was too salty to eat more than a few.

I come back the next week to get my missing sides and to use the free sandwich card. The manager asked where I had gotten the card and he sounded like he seemed suspicious. I told him I got it from him. He then seemed to remember. I come home to find that sandwich had no onions or pickles as shown on the card and was never asked if I wanted any.

I went and ordered the two meat meal, plus an additional side, and they forgot one of my sides! Super disappointing paying $34 and missing part of the meal.

First things first... NEW OWNER!!! OWNER is actually IN the restaurant making sure things are done right!

Everyone knows this location under the OLD owner was terrible, it is absolutely night & day difference with the NEW OWNER (Nash), he actually cares about doing a great job and making sure you have good food, good portions and reasonable prices!

Went in tonight for dinner, they are still getting situated (grand opening is in a couple weeks) but the food was really good, everyone was friendly and the place was CLEAN!

So... What'd I have:

3 Meat Plate - Brisket, Polish Sausage and Turkey
Brisket - On par with Texas style brisket, not dry and a nice flavor
Sausage - Really good, lots of flavor, good grind
Turkey - Delicious (and I'm not a turkey fan), most important thing is it is NOT dry at all! Being a Chicago born and raised "red meat guy" I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the turkey was my favorite! (and I don't like turkey!)
Sides:
FRESH CUT FRIES (my Kryptonite!), they were great, why do more restaurants not make delicious, fresh cut fries?!?!?! Well, they do here, YAY!
Green Beans with Onion and Bacon: Delicious, a traditional Texas BBQ side and they do them well here.

Portions were generous (unlike the old owner) and the food was all fresh and hot (sides were hot, BBQ is typically "warm" due to the nature of the cook & holding methods) Flavors were good and the sauces are served on the side (as they should be, if you go to a BBQ place and they cover everything in sauce, they are hiding something!)

I'm so happy that Dickey's re-opened (under new owners) as they have good food (when they actually put in the effort and care), it is nice to be able to drive less than 10 minutes and get some pretty darn good BBQ...

Forget what you knew about this location prior to Jan 2025, it is a completely different story now! Give the new owner a try and let him prove himself, he seems to really have a strong desire to succeed and make this a staple of the area...

***UPDATE*** Feb 18, 2025 - Second photo is tonight... 2 meats and double fries (probably shouldn't have!) Turkey and Polish Sausage... Left stuffed and VERY satisfied, these guys are hitting their groove and doing things right... Great service and great food, so nice to have a good BBQ place close by... If you haven't been here with the new owner, you are missing out on a good place for BBQ...

Been here 3 times now since the new owner, keeps getting better! They are really getting dialed in and the food is very good... I hadn't been to this location in years because it was absolutely terrible with the old owner... Night and day difference with this new owner ("Nash") he is in there all the time and is making sure things are done right!

Definitely give them a try, well worth it!

Heard about this on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Glad I did ! I got the brisket sandwich with fried Okra let's just talk about amazing. The meat was tender with amazing flavor. The fried Okra golden brown and criapp to perfection. Owner Nash was super friendly and the young man he was training was shy but a nice warm smile. Highly recommend and I will be back.

Oh my goodness, let me tell you about Dickey's Barbecue Pit! As a southerner, I’ve got a real soft spot for good barbecue, and this place definitely delivers. Every time I walk in, I can practically smell the love and tradition wafting through the air.

The turkey BBQ sandwich? Wow! It's hands down my favorite. It’s so tender and flavorful, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of smokiness. Honestly, it’s like a warm hug in sandwich form. And let’s talk about that fried okra! It’s crispy and golden, and I can’t resist grabbing a handful every time I visit. It’s the ultimate sidekick to that delicious sandwich!

I find myself heading to Dickey's every week right after my PT sessions, and it’s become a routine for me. There’s something about indulging in this fantastic food that just makes my day so much brighter. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the staff always greets me with a smile.

I can’t recommend this place enough! I’m always telling my friends and family to check it out because, trust me, you won’t regret it. If you’re looking for some truly great southern barbecue, Dickey's is the spot to be. Give it a try—you’ll be hooked!

We placed a large takeout order for our Super Bowl party, ordered everything from ribs to brisket to pulled pork and several sides. All of the food was a huge hit, ages 5 to 75! Great food, even better people!

I would absolutely recommend anyone go here! The environment is so welcoming and makes you feel right at home. The food is to die for, I literally would make this my death row meal it’s THAT good.

New owner is amazing!!! Super friendly, takes his time to talk to you and makes you feel welcomed, and best of all, makes AMAZING BBQ. I've been twice this week already, and plan to come back many times in the future.
