Keep driving a little further to the In & Out Burger in the same parking lot. This place is bad. Smells like cleaning supplies and somehow still rotten food when you walk in. Waiter forgets your order and if you order a $12 margarita they crack open an aluminum can and dump the contents into this shot glass. Sushi is gross and no one is happy to be working here.

I went into an empty restaurant, went and took my favorite place... I didn't notice any employees along the way... when I sat down at the table a girl came out and asked me how many of us there would be, I answered two... and then when my husband came in after me and he saw that she was walking towards me and carrying a menu, he extended his hand to her to take this menu, but she pretended that she didn't notice and demonstratively walked past him... and after that she began to make claims against me that I allegedly didn't greet her in return when I came in and walked past, although I didn't even see her when I came in and didn't hear anyone greeting me... I always greet in return, I was actually brought up that way... on her part it was very incompetent and unprofessional! We turned around and left! and most likely we won't come back here anymore... although we used to come here and we didn't have such problems... San Marcos

1 Star - Disappointing and Uncomfortable Experience at Hooked on Sushi - My husband and I stopped by Hooked on Sushi on San Marcos Blvd for dinner after our workout, hoping for a warm, cozy meal—especially since it was pouring rain outside.

Unfortunately, it was anything but pleasant. When we walked in, the back door was wide open, letting in a flood of cold, damp air. We were the only people in the restaurant, which should’ve been a red flag. I politely asked the woman at the counter if we could close the door since it was freezing inside. She snapped at me—yes, snapped—that they couldn’t because of ā€œventilation.ā€ I was baffled. There are huge vents overhead, so I asked our server if those were broken since the place felt like a refrigerator. She explained they have to keep the door open because past customers complained about a smell. If your ventilation is that bad, maybe it’s time to fix it instead of punishing your current customers with an arctic dining room. We didn’t even make it to our drinks. The cold was unbearable, and we had to leave before our order arrived. To top it off, the woman up front started shooting me dirty looks as we grabbed our things—like I was the problem for not wanting to shiver through my sushi.

It was unprofessional, unwelcoming, and honestly just uncomfortable. We ended up next door at a pizza shop run by two brothers from Italy, where they were warm and friendly—a complete night-and-day difference. They welcomed us with open arms, and we instantly felt at home. We won’t be back to Hooked on Sushi. If you’re looking for a warm meal and decent service, skip this place and head to the pizza shop instead.

My experience happened back in November of 2024. 1 haven't been back since and have happily visited Loveboat Sushi in San Marcos instead. My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner as this was my favorite place to eat. We were told to sit anywhere where there was a place setting. We sat near the door but found it to be too cold. We moved to a 6 top table because it was farthest away from the door, but soon after we were told we couldn't sit there as they needed to save those tables for larger parties. Fair enough. I asked to be seated at the 4 top next to the 6 top and the server said no because the table didn't have the place setting. With no intent to argue with the server we sat at a high top table to remedy the situation. The server was short handed so we took this into account. She came back over later prior to taking our order and said that we could move to the 4 top table I requested to sit at earlier. This made me happy as my back was hurting and I wanted to sit in the booth style seat. When we attempted to sit there the other server that had just shown up for the evening told us that we couldn't sit there and sat us at another table close to the door. Perplexed at the situation we moved again. We sat there for another 15-20 minutes and watched as both servers ignored us. We saw people that came in after us get greeted and have their orders taken. At this point it was clear that the two servers were not in communication with each other and we wouldn't be getting served anytime soon. We got up and left. The servers didn't notice our departure until my boyfriend went to tell them that we were upset that we had not been acknowledged for even a simple drink order and that we would be leaving. The servers took no responsibility and said that they both thought the other server was taking care of us. I would recommend that you train your staff to treat all guests as their table... even if it's not their table. For now, I refuse to visit this establishment as this experience has left a pretty rotten impression regardless of how much I love your food.

Pretty good! An overwhelming amount of sushi roll options that made it extremely difficult to choose just 2. Only 2 because these are giant portions and almost wasn't able to finish the second roll.

I guess the name fits as now I gotta come back to try all the flavors I wanted to try. The food itself was nice and fresh. Great presentation.

The price for 5 people for sushi was also surprisingly low so that's nice too. Overall, a great place for some quick sushi.

The salad was nearly nothing but the center stalk of the lettuce. The tempura was burnt on a few of the more fragile vegetables. The salmon I had tasted like a microwave had a go at it. The rice was dry.

The service was ok. They had one girl cleaning everything and was friendly and the reason for the second start⁷ The waitress helping never checked on me.

Love to come here and order the vegetable sushi platter, and of the "vegetarian" rolls (we asked and the chefs said all the rolls on the vegetarian page are actually vegan). Hard to pick a favorite roll, but maybe the Alice in Wonderland (mushrooms, tempura tofa, avocado, asparagus, seared w/sesame oil). Also love the Herbivore Roll (cripsy onion strings), Asparagus Roll and Angry Tofu Roll (when feeling up for spicy). Pretty certain the miso soup and side salads are also vegan, which my wife often gets. I also like that the teriyaki is vegan. I like to add sriracha to it and use as a dip for the rolls. Lots of drinks available, such as sake, beer and wine (not certain which are vegan, I usually only get sake if anything).

Went today was served by Lainey and Mallory. They were super friendly and helpful since this was my first time dining here. They helped me find something I would enjoy and they were spot on.

I rarely give negative feedbacks but this one was well deserved. First off, I wish I took consideration 1 star reviews because they were accurate!I had a to-go lunch. The sashimi was the worst I have ever had. And the crunchy roll was fake. The salad: greens were brown!I had cheap sushi before but this was just a joke. And guess what? We didn’t have soy sauce with 2 to-go lunches! Congratulations.
