Went for hibachi dinner at this place. The food taste is average and not a good value for money. They are overcharging for the qty and quality of food. We went there for experience but were not impressed. On top of high prices they try to find ways to charge extra for items that should be included in the package. Overall would not recommend the restaurant for hibachi experience

God damn lol im scared now that I might die later tonight. I have a sensitive stomach, and reading about multiple ppl getting the runs and or throwing up all night makes me terrified beyond compare. I should of went on Yelp before. I should of just went to my normal sushi joint. BUT they didn't have what I wanted today so my bf and I decided wtf let's try something new. Mistake!!! Stick to the rivers and lakes you're used to, said by the great TLC. Anyway they already don't have sushi rolls or sashimi so thank god because of the people that got sick off them. I have a shellfish allergy and luckily the server was nice enough to ask if they could do grilled calamari instead of it being fried and contaminated with shellfish oil. Luckily they had avocado cucumber rolls I hope I don't die tonight from eating those and they took my allergy seriously. We ordered two bento boxes on calamari and one sesame chicken. And the edemame. I was confused why there was crunchy stuff in my miso soup... but what made it the worst experience was the two b****** fruit flies that kept trying to ravish my damn food and space. I literally ate swaying my napkin back and forth the whole time, till finally I said f*** this can I get a Togo box. Sigh.... Such a disappointing experience. The server was nice but the dining experience was not. Thanks but we won't be coming back.

Yesterday I went to Katsu with my boyfriend. Got 3 rolls, all were nasty. The only thing that was good was the garlic edamame lol. I'm just not the type to send food back so we paid & left. Then last night were both sick to our stomach, I was throwing up till about 1am. Should have read reviews first lol

I've been coming to Katsu for years and it truly has not changed, which is a good thing as the food is good and consistent, especially for the hibachi side of the restaurant. The hibachi chefs have been here over 20+ years and have the skills to match and make the experience enjoyable. Service is good as well. I have not been here for the sushi or lunch specials as I usually come for hibachi, but it does look like they're popular for their lunch bentos. Overall good experience, especially for a birthday or special event around the hibachi table, or during covid, my husband and I had a private hibachi show as it was early in the evening on a rainy day and it wasn't busy, which was really nice and we felt safer (all restaurant staff is also masked).

If you are reading this I may died of mayonnaise poisoning. If we would have read some reviews before attempting this endeavor. We ordered mayonnaise rolls i mean sushi rolls however if that is your thing by all means please order away. Everything was coated in heavy mayonnaise. Do not recommend this establishment.

Very nice mid level Japanese cuisine. They have inside and outside tables as well as some teppanyaki and a sushi bar. Full menu from sushi to bento boxes (always the best deal!) They have japanese beer and saki. Located in the restaraunt row on san marcos blvd. Next to the regal movie theater. Plenty of parking. Be aware they advertise open till 830 but stop seating at 8pm.

Service wasn't that good we sat at the bar and the chef in front of us wasn't that friendly. We ordered the most expensive roll and it came out like mush. We tried to tell him and he gave us two forks.

Overall very good food, especially the sushi. Disappointed in the seafood Dynamite which we've had many times over the years, but it seems they've changed the recipe. It came out cold on the inside. The only other thing that was not enjoyable, was we sat down at 8 p.m. on a Friday night and before we were able to order, the owner came along and told us it was last call! We told her that we didn't even have a chance to order yet. How can you have last call at 10 minutes after 8 on a Friday night? This is not going to draw customers in and honestly this place used to be very crowded and usually a wait. Now there are only a few tables there and maybe part of it has to do with the management? We ate out every night that we were in town for five nights and lunches and every place we went to was full or near full.

Hibatchi style cuisine is attractive to me stimulated thoughts of "fresh, healthy, and fun". Well, unfortunately, the experience was "stomach ache (MSG), boring, and expensive". My boyfriend and I chose Katsu because he had been there before, although later I find out it had been several years ago, I had mentioned Binihanas initially. One hundred twenty dollars later, and 30 minutes after eating, with taking a lot in a to go box, we were home in the restrooms. We had plans to spend the rest of our evening shopping, that did not occur. I was very disappointed and the smell of the left overs were nauseating. The patrons in the establishment were sparse and this was a spot at a hot table I called to reserve only being told that the time we requested was not available. I thought that was a good sign, not! I assume, it was a convenient time for the chef. I am going to call them today to request a refund. I hope they are receptive to constructive criticism. Ill let you know...

Friend told me about their bento box lunch so we were excited to try. You get a lot of food. Miss soup was good. I had a garlic beef which was soso, wife had teriyaki chicken which was good. Tempura veggies and shrimp were probably the best part of the meal. The sushi was not very good.

Want to take a risk on the wild side? Dance with the devil? ....is how i felt after reading a review about the health department coming down on these guys, after the name came up for the second time in a month from the many family suggestions for dinner, now, when I read about the health department and all, the first time the name came up for dinner, I ever so slickly diverted the attentuon away from Japanese food lol. Second time around, not so lucky, it was go time for me, swalloing my pride, not saying anything I said to myself " this is happening" , " we are gonna play russian roulette here! runs edition"! So we decide for a deluxe dinner combo and 2 of the 3rd choice of dinner combos, with the sashimi, and a eel sushi roll forgot what it was called, we decided for take out, picked it up, got home, started to unbox everything and it all looked good, but! It just looked good unfortunately, the number one staple of a sushi joint, here and on pluto, is the steamed white rice, this, had to be the worst rice ive tasted on a plate, and on a sushi roll, super dry, didnt hold at all on a roll, wasnt seasoned, if it was, it was bland! I can make better rice in my rice maker, and can season my rice better then these guys do! You can tell the cooks dont love what they are cooking. Harsh? Nope, just getting started, the eggrolls, already fried from earlier, bared the marks of a flat top grill! So they fry the egg rolls in advance, set them aside, and reheat them via the griddle...wtf? Who does that!? People who dont give one s*** about what they serve! is who! The teriyaki chicken, had the consistency of boiled chicken, are they also cooking the chicken in advance and just throwing the grilled chicken into a hotel pan with teriyaki sauce already in it? When you order, they just pull chicken out of the pool of teriyaki? Well...it sure as f*** tastes like it! I mean really folks!? Does it take that damn long to really fry a frozen eggroll? Fried to order? Or how long does it really take to gill chicken and then marinade it in the final seconds of cooking as to not burn the sugar in the sauce? Or how about getting a new damn rice maker? Or teaching your people in the kitchen how to properly season short grain rice, and in that process, teach them how to properly roll with said sticky rice. As for the fish itself , it was fresh. But kind of sad when you realize the best part of these 4 meals, was the raw fish by itself... :( $$$$$
