Philly Frank’s is a true local treasure. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, and the quality never misses. The mushroom cheesesteak hoagie is my favorite—packed with flavor and always made just right.

What really makes this place special is the people. Even if it’s been a while, the staff still greet me by name and make me feel at home. That kind of genuine care and connection is rare today. You can tell this multi-generational family business takes pride in everything they do—from the food to the warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Philly Frank’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a part of the community. Highly recommend!

The cheese steaks are great but the onion rings with wiz is the dish I crave the most here.

Walk up to order. They had good takeout business going the day we were there. (Sunday) We ate in. The sandwiches and onion rings were good. Made in a different style. Atmosphere was minimal, but A/C was working well.

Gotta say I've never in my life had a Philly cheesesteak that had no cheese .

That is all.

I have been patronizing Philly Franks for many years. I went to college just outside Philadelphia and fell in love with the cheesesteak and the hoagie. After college and the Navy, I returned to California and found that there were only a few places that served a decent Philly Cheesesteak and was very happy to find one in my new hometown of San Marcos. This place is about as authentic as any Philly steak and hoagie shop you find in Philadelphia or the Main Line. You have a lot of options for the cheese steak or hoagie. I like mine with fried onions, white American cheese (you can get Wiz if you want), and sweet peppers. They get their rolls shipped from Philadelphia and the meat is perfectly tender and juicy. The Italian hoagie is stacked with the standard Italian cold cuts (my favorite is the mortadella), Italian dressing, lettuce, thinly sliced tomatoes and onions. They have Herr’s chips of all flavors, and Tasty Cakes, too!

Visited from Northern California here visiting family. We all enjoyed our Cheesesteak sandwiches with onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers on a toasted roll, like I saw recommended here. Enjoyed the fries and really loved the onion rings. Had crunchy pickle rings, peppers, and jalapenos on the side too. Customer service was excellent and very friendly. I will be back when I visit family again.

So there’s a chance that my order was a fluke and not the norm bc it looked nothing like majority of these posts. I’ve always loved this place and was heartbroken with my last order. I retracted my bad review and am giving the benefit of the doubt until I try again.

Terrible.

Being from the Northeast I love me a good cheese steak.
Had high hopes when I saw this business's listing.

Ordered the works with provolone and whiz.

Gave me cold whiz on the side and said they cant put it on the sub because it will rip. What??

Opened the parchment paper around the sub and had a heaping of grease pour all over me.

Nearly all the cheese in the sub was stuck to the paper.

Bread was hard.

Raw onions when I ordered cooked.

What gives? I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident there's no way others are leaving positive reviews with this quality I received.

I didn't expect Philly quality in SD but I genuinely could have gotten better at Subway.

$20 down the drain.

Had a steak n cheese , flavor was good just the meat was a little ovr fine chopped for my taste. I know ppl will say that's how its supposed to be but this was beyond that. Definitely will go back and try cple other sandwiches for sure
