Food huge disappointment on flavor. The ingredients in the fried rice were minced sooo small and bland.. the rice cooked this way is a highlight of coming here otherwise we can just go anywhere. Double veggies.. since when are red peppers Japanese? You do cheep short cuts to not provide a quality Japanese flavor and experience with 30$ price tag. I STRONGLY recommend people go elsewhere. No wonder restaurant was empty.

It's always a great birthday at Shogun, especially when there's a few young kids at the table. They love it. Food is great ?Kid-friendliness: The kids love it and the cooks play to them.

We've been coming to this location occasionally for birthdays and holidays. It's my mother-in-law's favorite place.Service is decent but it really depends on how busy the restaurant is. Sometimes the server is attentive and sometimes the server comes to check in at the beginning and the end for the check. When it's busy, it can get really challenging to get refills or utensils. Our teppanyaki chef has been different almost every time we went but most of them have similar cooking styles. My go-to is their ribeye steak and colossal shrimp combination dinner. Comes with choice of miso or onion soup and a side salad with the ginger carrot dressing as starter and 3 shrimps. We usually get the chicken fried rice over the steamed rice. The in-laws are big fans of the Shotgun Special which gives you 3 proteins - choice of ribeye or filet, lobster tail and choice of shrimp or scallop. It's dinner and a show with some jokes sprinkled here and there, what's not to love? Great option for birthdays, anniversary or just date night. Highly recommend reservations for big parties and for major holidays. They don't seat you until your whole party is present.Food is buttery, savory and served piping hot. They may seat you with others as the tables are intended for 8 seats but sometimes you get lucky - depends on how busy they are. They also serve sushi and hot dishes if you're not in the mood for teppanyaki. We have not tried these options so I can't personally comment.

There were no people waiting, and only two tables were occupied in the entire restaurant, yet we felt rushed. They took my child's napkin, my napkin, and the knife for cutting the steak. We couldn't engage in much conversation, as it seemed they expected us to leave as soon as the chef finished cooking. I didn't even have the chance to finish my drink or sushi.I recommend visiting the other Shogun location, as there's a reason it's always pack. I'm giving two stars because the chef was pleasant. Additionally, the children's chairs were unsanitary, and even after requesting a cleaning, there was still food stuck to them.

I overheard that one of the inspectors from the Alcohol Beverage control asked their server if they had RBS training as it is a requirement for every server in CA, and the server has no idea at all of what the inspector is talking about and answered that their Manager didn’t say anything about it. Personally I am a server too that’s why I know the importance of the training. Setting aside that fact, our server seems new to the job, messed up our orders and the chinese manager didn’t do anything about. The food is fine. But paying for its price and the quality of service is not worth it.

Shogun Tepanzaki Restaurant in San Marcos is an excellent special restaurant. They are large and contain about 9 grills. Our cook was excellent and very experienced. The food and the preparation was plentiful and flawless. They also have a small sushi bar or you can get a roll whine at the grill. Pricrs are high but normal and we will definitely return when in the area.

We hadn't been there in four years. It used to be a typical Japanese sushi place but now it's turned into a frumpy Benni Hanna! There are no private tables. It's all eating in the round and the chef comes out and cooks everyone's separately ordered food at the same time and passes it out. You will have to sit with people you don't know unless you come as a group. Entree's are very overpriced for the amount of food you get. It was $35 for 6 scallops, dry steamed rice, cheep small portion of stir fry vegetables, lame miso soup and a one ingredient small side salad. When cooking those large scallops, the chef then cut them into quarter size pieces! I guess it's to make it look like a ample portion, but that's ruines the joy and concept of having large scallops in the first place! I was horrified! My half size Alaska roll was very small and skimpy. I was the only one at the table that didn't get an "entertainment meal". I ordered the sashimi salad. It wasn't brought to me until everyone else was nearly finished with their food. The pieces of fish were minimal and the "vinegaret dressing" was hideous looking paste color glop. I didn't use or try it, of course. It was also very cold in the place, which was surprising as they have the hot cooking going on right near you. A very unpleasant experience. Never going back.

Stumbled across this restaurant. The food is wonderful and the chef that cooked ours was great and entertaining. As the meal was winding down so did the service. Our waitress took my card to run it and didn't come bacj for over 12 minutes and she didnt have my bill. She assisted the other group sitting with us. There were 3 in our group and 3 in the other group. No one else were in the restaurant. After 9 minutes she finally came out with our processed bill. I will go back because of the excellant food and hoping the service will remain good till the end.
