This is truly a gem in San Marcos. I highly recommend it. The staff was great and the food even better

I ordered the Toro Roll expecting what was advertised: clean slices of toro draped over the roll, as shown in the photos.
This isn’t a matter of taste; it’s misrepresentation. If you’re going to charge $24 for a toro roll, it should contain actual toro, served properly, not disguised under toppings and a blowtorch. At this price point, you’re not just serving food—you’re selling trust. And that trust is broken.
I’ve had toro many times. This wasn’t it.
Please fix the photo, rename the item, or deliver what you’re advertising. Otherwise, you’re just banking on customers not knowing the difference.

Sushi was ok, hamachi kama was really good, salmon was grilled perfectly. But the start of the show was the garlic edamame.
Service was off. Our server was very inattentive. We only saw him twice, when he took our order and when we were walking out. The other staff are very friendly and took good care of us.

I ordered a poke bowl and was really displeased when I got a small scoop of rice and mostly lettuce. Had maybe five small pieces of salmon. Tried reaching out multiples times just to express dissatisfaction with the quality of my mean for how much I paid. Great spot otherwise.
My friend introduced me to this nice sushi restaurant next to CSU San Marcos campus. There's a lot of construction in the area right now and we parked in the large parking structure a block away.
The restaurant was pretty empty while we were there for lunch on a weekday. We all chose to order their bento lunch specials. They were about $17-$19 depending on the main dish. We were all pretty happy with our orders.
Service was good. We ordered hot teas since it was a cold day and our tea cups were kept full throughout our lunch. We appreciated it!
Sushi cones were awesome and my lunch bento box very filling. Spicy teriyaki was not too sweet and just spicy enough for my tastes. I generally like foods with some heat and this was just right. Casual place with friendly service too.
Wow mikea was verry helpful in choosing some of the most beautiful and tasty rolls. The people and staff are very friendly and the food was fantastic
Delicious sushi and sashimi! All fish was served fresh and presented beautifully 😀 pork bao buns were amazing, and the bento box had lots of tasty food samples including gyoza, miso soup, spring salad, and Philadelphia roll. They also have Asahi and Sapporo on tap which makes everything even better :) portions were pretty generous for Japanese restaurant, so lots of delicious leftovers.
$160 order and not even a chopstick or soy sauce.Call the restaurant to complain and got a lecture instead of an apology. Never ordering again. Based by the way they’ve replied to my review and calling me Mr. Ferria you can see how much attention to details they have on this business. Food was mediocre, service was subpar and attention to details was zero.
Beautiful decor and live wall pictures. Ramen was so so good! Service was impeccable. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

For Japanese cuisine in North County, it is one of the best. However, the Goyoza tasted like your typical frozen foods you can buy. Short ribs (lunch) was tasty and had adequate servings. No unagi dishes other than Dragon roll. The service is okay. Ordered hot tea. Came with bag in and no saucer to place bag. No small plate or dish provided with sushi neither. Lacking the small plates for both items is my reason for the 4 stars. We will come again to try other dishes and hopefully to see a 5 star service. We do appreciate having a wonderful Japanese cuisine in North County. Hopefully, it will be worth the drive from Carlsbad.
Neat atmosphere. Food was tasty with a few unique sushi options.
Maybe best sushi in north county
The food there is very nice and the staff is always very nice, its a good place to get a meal before a class
Umami is easily my favorite sushi spot for quality and taste. My family and I always go during lunch we so can get the lunch bento box. We also like to order a roll (or two) of sushi to share. I would highly recommend their spicy crunch roll! My only complaint is the speed of service heavily lacks. There have been instances where a server did not check in with us until after we were done with our food and it was time to pay which is particularly troublesome when attempting to order another roll or simply getting a drink refill.
