Place is gone and is a Taqueria now.
We had a great meal here starting with ceviche mixto, then meat and seafood dishes that we shared. Favorites were the lomo saltado that had great seasoning and pescado a lo macho that has the aji Amarillo sauce. Casual dining room and friendly service. I prefer this restaurant to Limon. There is convenient parking at the back of the restaurant.
Parking: Parking is available at the back of the restaurant.

We were in the San Mateo area on a nice Saturday, tired and hungry. We suddenly saw the sign "El Calamar, Peruvian cuisine." We didn't know they had parking on the back, so we parked a block away. We were greeted promptly at the door by a charismatic lady. We ordered "Lomo saltado" and "Seco de carne." To drink, we ordered "chicha morada." Everything was d e l i c i o u s ! Both dishes had a good amount of food, so we got full. We ordered as dessert one "leche asada" to taste it and it was great. We planned to come back on the following Tuesday, but they were closed. Probably, Memorial Day had to do with the closure. It was a good experience. They have one server who speaks Spanish. We will come back soon to taste their sea food...
Guys! This place is amazing, home cooked flavors and their green ají is great. We ordered the antichuchos, mondoguito a la italiana, Lomo Saltado, The Lomo chaufa, and they had Picarones ?. All the plates were delicious. Visit this gem! It won't disappoint. It was so good that I forgot to take pics.
Vegetarian options: Plenty of veggie options.
Kid-friendliness: Kids will love their menu.
Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of space.

Really pleasant run by young family. I liked sitting outside behind the restaurant on back deadend alley under canopy (no traffic). Food is good. A little pricey if looking for a cheap lunch ($24 with tip) compared with some of the other places nearby. I am going back for sure to try some other things. They do have a liquor license as well
Parking: Parking behind restaurant in lot and street usually has free parking

Had to wait literally 35 minutes to get my leche de tigre, and it wasn't even busy. We're all busy, please respect people time, portions could be a little bigger for $13.00

I tried several peruvian restaurants in the Bay Area, and this is one of the best, if not the best! Really taste to Peru...
Small quiet lil joint. Entirely unassuming. Don't let that be a deterrent. Great service and great food!!!! Ceviche was excellent!

Must try! Food was amazing and our server, Juan was super friendly and knowledgeable. He said that they started with a food truck in SF which they still have and then started this place 9 months agoWe tried, cilantro beef, aji chicken, lomo saltado, fish and calamari in sauce and a kid's plate. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. We will be back to support this small family owned restaurant.
