Great place if you're looking for family chinese food, I got their shrimp chow mein and orange chicken, the orange chicken was awesome (one of the best I've tried) and the chow mein was very good too, everything was well seasoned. The staff is not very friendly, they'll just ask what you want and that's it, but I think it's because they're always rushed lol

Good place with decent food and friendly service. I had dinner here and was suprised with the food for a decent price. Was a quiet place but we were there on a Wednesday later in the evening.

Food, two much salt in sauces, "braised" fish was deep fried with something poured over it, loaded with oil, unedible. Restaurant is messy which is indicator of messy kitchen. Not authentic. There are many better choices for well prepared Chinese cuisine in San Mateo. The best dish was seafood tofu clay pot but it had very little seafood, a few shrimp and calamari, no fish. Loaded with cheap tofu. Servers limited English

I had food ordered on Doordash and Fortune Star insists you include rice on every item you buy. I thought that was strange. I ended up paying 101.00 on food through Doordash and most of the food that showed up was rice and hardly any Chinese food. I now have a pound of rice since I bought multiple items and the amount of Chinese food is minimal. Another way to screw over your customers. Never AGain.

I do have to say the food is really good. However, since I Doordashed all this food to a tune of 100.00, they proceeded to pile up tons of rice and very little Chinese food because they knew I was not eating in the restaurant. Very disappointing.... I really feel cheated. However, if I was eating in the restaurant, there is no way they would make every patron pick rice with every dish. The rice is an addition and you pick what you want. It is very clear they wanted me to pay mostly for rice and a very steep price. Never again. I'd love to post a picture because now they don't come in the red/white containers, you have to have it in a regular white container for more food, which is where the pile up the rice and tiny bit of Chinese food.

My favorite dish is the crispy eggplant and honey walnut prawns. Always delicious and service is excellent! This place has been my favorite for years!

Fortune Star Chinese Restaurant is located in San Mateo. I had passed by this place many times. I decided to try it out. I entered during off peak hours -- it was between lunch and dinner. I looked over the menu and placed an order to go. Soon a couple came in to eat. I studied the menu while they were seated. Soon my order was ready. I took my goods while the waitress took the couple's order. The food was good. I will make it a point to make a return visit to dine indoors next time.

Friendly service, great food. We ordered prawns with fresh veggies, sweet and sour chicken, and chicken chow mein. They gave us free egg rolls. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend!

Gotten food from this place a few times recently and it was great. Crispy sweet and sour pork. But last time we ordered it was terrible. Everything was burned and no flavor. This is the last time we will ever order from here.

FANTASTIC FOOD! Great service. Pot stickers are delicious (I order mine crispy) and the Mongolian beef is fresh and very tasty.

I ordered fried rice and pot stickers to go. The fried rice tasted like it was burned and other than that too.Very nice staff, but I won’t return

I have been coming here for years and they have always had good food, so I hope this is an aberration. They didn't have my order ready and there was only one table eating in. It was pretty clear they hadn't even found my order. After 20 min I took my food home. The hot and sour soup was completely bland, and the minced chicken in lettuce wraps was almost all onions, and chicken was not minced and also so bland I couldn't eat it. If this is the new normal, I will not be back.
