We met friends for dinner at this restaurant; per their recommendation. It very nicely decorated in the Mexican theme and bright colors. The food and service was also good. I would definitely go again when I am in the area.

I've been coming here since I was a kid, we used to come almost once a week its so good. Its always been such a warm environment and such delicious food. I recommend this place to everyone! There is plenty of vegetarian food for me to eat (I usually get a cheese tostada or a cheese enchilada) and my husband loves what ever meat dishes he has tried here. The family that owns it are very friendly, especially their daughter. If you live in the area and somehow haven't been here, you've got to try it!

The place had beautiful stained glass all over, loved the vibe! There weren't too many people on a Thursday evening. My friend and I ordered enchiladas, they were really good. We were surprised that we were able to finish our portions. Tortilla chips were super hard and we didn't end up having any! The server was very kind and patient ✨Vegetarian options: Cheese enchiladas

I don't think anyone will even take this review as their sign to stay away from this restaurant. Friday night 5:30 no reservations, they sat us and practically forgot us. Worst 3 hour dinner experience, chips were hard and tasted very old (should have been our sign to leave ). Place was packed and they are serving stale chips (how is that even possible). Only 2 waitresses, one very pleasant (always smiling) and the other not too happy. Both running around mad taking orders, serving plates, making cocktails, you name it they were doing it all. Food arrived 30-40 minutes after we ordered, it was cold and tasted old. My husband's plate had a hair and the Margarita should up with a Nat swimming in it. We were a party of 6 and no one liked their food. People were actually waiting in line all night to eat there and I have no clue why. It was my husband's birthday dinner and we were so disappointed. I hear the guy says he doesn't need some people's business as his got a full house and he isn't wrong this place was jam packed full of people eating disgusting food and not giving a crap, I mean we did it but we won't be back. Seems we don't demand good food anymore, we will pay for crap to be served to us and we will eat it and say it's good. I cannot believe all these reviews saying how wonderful and authentic this food is, not true.

I am from Southern California and met up with family who has been going to this restaurant for more than 20 years. The server spilled an entire margarita all over my left side through my sweater onto my shirt all over my jeans and in my shoes, The margarita also made it onto my cousins pants and her blouse. The person who spilled the margarita was laughing and the owner treated it as if it wasn't a big deal although we were literally drenched. I asked for towels and was given three or four paper towels. I reached for the role and the owner pulled it away. I gathered everyone's napkins from the table to try to take care of the horrendous mess and made it through our mediocre meal, When the bill came, he did absolutely nothing, not an I'm sorry enjoy this dessert on the house or I'm comping your cocktail, nothing. I commented on that and told him I wouldn't be leaving him a tip. My family had been going to the restaurant for over 20 years and I would make sure they wouldn't returned. His response was good get out, are you kidding me? I ran a business in Los Altos for 36 years. Mistakes happen it's human. It's all how you take care of it. The margarita that ended up all over my cousin and myself was someone else's at the table. The owner said he made that cocktail special and that should suffice. This infuriated me so I thought he should spend the rest of the night with my remaining margarita all over him, an overreaction on my part but an under reaction on his.

Anyone who writes a one star 7 paragraph review about someone else's mental health is clearly the problem in the equation. Last night I had the Carne Asada with a green enchilada plate. It was fantastic. We love La Fonda and have for more than a decade. A classic family owned and operated local business that does not deserve slander.

This is less of a review than a public service announcement. I'm not a regular Yelper, but by posting this I hope to warn potential victims as well as urge the family who own and operate this restaurant to find pyschological counseling and/or medication for their father. We've enjoyed La Fonda for several years. It's a very homey place, reminiscent of the large, family-style Mexican food restaurants of our childhood--and indeed, they've been in operation since the '70s. Our reasons for driving forty-five minutes to La Fonda were primarily the comfort we felt at the ambiance, familiar food from the past (as opposed to more contemporary and regional Mexican eateries) and the excellent, warm, and friendly service from the two waitresses and waiter who regularly work there. The restaurant is family-owned and the patriarch/owner used to preside in the kitchen. That was a little over a year ago, and when he was cooking, the food was much better. It has since become uneven, as he is no longer in the kitchen and instead takes orders on the floor and behind the bar, but, again, out of comfort and loyalty, we still kept coming back periodically. I was aware of the Yelp reviews that detailed horror stories regarding the father's behavior when he engaged with customers, but--like most people--the immediate pleasure of indulging in the pleasant present drowned out any nagging worries of what might be lurking under the surface. Unfortunately, eating here while that man is working is like playing Russian Roulette, and yesterday, the barrel was loaded. We arrived for dinner and, as the restaurant was full, chose to eat outside. This was made possible because La Fonda offers a very attractive outside covered area with tables equipped with large heating lamps above them. It was in the lower 50s and we were already bundled up and as we waited it got progessively colder, but we'd eaten outside in December before and knew the heaters would make everything copacetic. It was a busy night and they were short-handed, so it took some time to flag someone down inside. A bus boy gave us chips and water but about fifteen minutes elapsed and the heat still wasn't turned on. We were on the point of leaving (with no acrimony--the restaurant is often busy on the weekend), but then the main waitress (daughter of the owner) showed up and immediately turned on the heat and took our order. She is a truly wonderful and nice person and a stellar hostess/waitress. The heat was perfect and we warmed up comfortably. The father rushed outside soon afterward, asking us if we'd been served. He was obviously stressed, so we ignored his abruptness. Afterward, we noticed that the heat seemed much lower and we started to get cold again. After waiting for some time, again discussing whether we should just cancel the order and leave, as we were becoming cold and uncomfortable again, the food showed up. Unfortunately, the father brought it out, and again, he was brusque and abrupt. Still--we ignored that, but we did express the fact that we were cold again and asked him to turn up the heat. He immediately became belligerant and in a long tirade tried to gaslight us, claiming we were "crazy" and that it wasn't cold at all. We were stunned--his reactions and behavior go beyond "rude"--it's actually more like a psychotic outburst, someone who stores pent-up anger and resentment for whatever reason (even irrational people have their reasons) and then unloads it in an abusive explosion at whatever customer has drawn the unlucky straw. We told him he'd lost our business--his response was "Who needs you? I've got more people inside than I can count"--and when we were going to get up and leave the food behind, his behavior became threatening and he forcibly demanded that we pay for it (possibly because we were both women). At this point, it was clear we were dealing with someone who is suffering from psychological/mental illness and it was just easier to pay than spend our time and ener
