Use to love coming here all the time but I've been here twice and they are not open. I came on a Wednesday at noon and they were not open when they were suppose to be open at 1130am. Now I have wasted my time once again and I am here on a Saturday at 1230 and they are CLOSED. They were suppose to be open at 12! Please hire responsible people who will get to their job ON TIME because obviously these people don't and you are losing customers.
I have been going to Masu for 15 years and love this place. They have an awesome half price sushi roll special every night. Masu is a lowkey and quiet place with great food and friendly staff. Always fresh fish and one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. My favorite is the baked eggplant roll that is served warm.
Ass-u! This place serves super low grade food. It's a waste of money IMO. So many other places downtown like Ginza where you actually leave happy. Nobody smiles in this place, servers or customers. The bento is cheap and so is the food quality. The chicken sucks unless you prefer it bland and tough! I can't tell you enough how mediocre the food tastes! Tried the all-you-can-eat lunch special and from the get go found it challenging to order the next dish because I knew it was going to be crappy. Spicy tuna was nasty and old tasting. The Salmon and Yellowtail was made of small hard slivers of not-choice, questionable cuts. The only decent roll had fried shrimp in it. The food is technically edible but you have every other place to eat at. I'd stay away from here and let the food go straight to compost.
Good selection for all you can eat sushi for lunch and only $17 per person. They don't put too much rice and are generous with the fillings and avocado. Servers are nice. Would forget some things like refilling water but they were really nice.
Love it!!! Sushi and rolls was delicious!! And we didn't have to wait that much to get our order! Thank you!!!
Went for dinner thinking it was all you can eat, when we got there we found out it wasnt...no worries! For dinner they have an awesome deal for 50% of the rolls. One of the best sushi places in San Mateo.
Been going here since high school 2008 since I was 15!!! DAMN, I AM GETTING OLD LOL!! Ever since I started driving we would go here whenever we would have a minimum day to catch the all you can eat that ends at 3pm. I love the all you can eat and the avocado is always so fresh. They actually took away the all you can eat for awhile and brought it back about a year or two ago. I always come here and its my favorite. I love the taste of the crab in their rolls. So far the best all you can eat sushi for me in the bay area.
We love coming here, they are very kind, open late, has TVs, and yummy food! Parking can be difficult but 50% off sushi rolls can't be beat!
Terrible place. Literally says open and when I drive there it's closed. They could at least update yelp or google maps instead of wasting everyone's time
I love Masu! I've been coming here since highschool, and it's my go to sushi restaurant. Now that they're offering 50% off...even more inclined to go here. It's almost always empty which is surprising to me, considering the 50% and great food. I feel bad because they deserve better business, maybe better advertising. But I also like how I never have to wait for a table and it's never too loud. The service is really good too.
Restaurantji Recommends
My siblings & I love coming to Masu for their all you can eat sushi. Although their quality of sushi is not the best, their price really can't be beat. Crazy California is our personal fave; it's a shrimp tempura roll with crab on top. One thing that I've noticed is every time we order rolls, their proportions are all different. rolls that have fish/unagi end up having more avocado. Also, we came in on a Saturday around 12:30pm. Wasn't busy (yet); there was only about 1 other party of 2 in the restaurant. it took about 25minutes just to receive our first round. Being that you can order 2 items per person on your first round, I decided to order an udon. We received our rolls and I followed up about my soup. The waiter had explained to us that their sushi chef didn't want to make the rolls/cook, so they had a different person do it but is new and much slower; so it took longer to receive any of our orders. We ended up getting less food than usual because we got full faster from waiting around. Will probably be back because my siblings love it here. But highly recommend having more sushi chefs during your "all you can eat sushi" lunch special especially on a weekend.
Update: the sushi made me so sick. Maybe that's why it's 50% off I even tried again the next day and yet again, my stomach turned into knots.
LOUD because of vaulted ceilings and very open floor plan, service took FOREVER, and sushi rolls were sub par. The only thing that redeemed it was the chicken teriyaki and the fact that rolls were half price. The salad has a watered down dressing, if you ask for water, they only fill your cup halfway, and the rolls are uneven in how they are made. But mostly, this place is understaffed, slow, and inattentive. The waitress who we gave our order to asked us three times if we were still waiting for something we ordered 20 minutes ago. Ugh.
Brocolli Maki and Avocado rolls are really nice here. They generally have happy hour (half off) during lunch so it turns out to be a good deal too. Just make sure you are getting more stuff along with it, otherwise they might not honor that half off deal. In all, 8 broccoli roll for 5 bucks works out best if you are vegetarian and not that hungry!
Oh, picky people with their sushi..... Honestly, we were desperate for some sushi and it was quiet and empty here. Of course, we checked out the yelp reviews and got a little scared to try it. Not to mention the sushi here was half off! Was thinking......hmmmm maybe it's not that great if they're taking a bunch off the price We took a risk.....and almost nothing was wrong. The sushi was put together exquisitely (stayed together nice like any fancy place) ingredients tasted very fresh and delicious. My lion king roll was creamy and spicy with its sauce, and the salmon was just as good as my parents salmon (biggest compliment in the world!) I guess I'm a little picky with my wasabi. And the wasabi had no bite to it....usually wasabi makes my sinuses clear out and tears burst forth....maybe it wasn't fresh? I dunno. But that was a let down. But to make matters wonderful, they offer hot fresh green tea for free! And the atmosphere is nice, comfortable chairs, nice clean tables. There's some nice Japanese flair in decor. We're not into alcohol too much so I can't speak for the sake. Sorry. Honestly, this place has it where it counts! And it was such a great deal and made us happy! Period.
