Ever since Simply Cake opened in the area, they have been our favorite place for Hong Kong style baked goods and the only place we go to for birthday cakes. It's delicious and elegantly packaged. The cakes they made for our grandma's 100th and 101st birthday have gotten a lot of thumbs up from those who had it. It's a tradition for us to to keep coming back for 102nd and onward! The staffs are friendly and we love it that it's the same guy who took the order...
Great pastries - buns, egg tarts, everything tastes wonderful and is priced reasonably. Iād definitely come back for more.
However, I tried their mousse cake once and what a disaster. I rarely get so disappointed by a cake, but this one missed the mark on so many dimensions:
1) too sweet,
2) poor presentation (unevenly covered layers),
3) lousy toppings, eg an unwrapped ferrero rocher, strawberries with stale-looking stems,
4)...

A unique Asian - western fusion bakery located in the heart of San Mateo downtown. We have been here many times and always find something different and delicious to eat. Their creations are never too sweet, always light, moist and tasty. Very recommended !
Parking: Downtown San Mateo is hard to find parking in during weekends. There is a parking garage a few steps away from Simply Cake ā¦. you may get lucky ! š
