Food is always consistently delicious there. There serve some seasonal specials. The creamy tofu appetizer is out of this world.

The Omakase is always great there, my favorite from the 8 course was the anago. They always update the menu based on seasonal availability of the fish, so its very good. It’s more of an eclectic style of sushi but still enjoyable if that is your style. We also had these fried greeneyed fishes that were stellar. They were incredibly well seasoned and perfectly crispy. The wagyu-tacos are also a must get everytime I go. I got a snow crab handroll that wasn’t quite what I expected but the salmon truffle handroll is amazing. We got the green tea ice cream for dessert and they also gave us a yuzu cheesecake that was delicious. It somehow tasted like passionfruit and yuzu. I’d go back again for that cheesecake!

The food were good. I tried the extra fatty tuna and that was great, melt in your mouth. Unfort6they don't have fatty salmon. I was only able to try mostly a piece of each of the sashimi because I would have ordered $200 worth of fish myself if I ordered enough for myself. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're not that hungry.

Incredibly average, awful rude service, will never come again.
We arrived at 6:30 with no reservation and the older woman in charge immediately frowned and was shocked that we didn’t have a reservation. She said we could sit at the sushi bar but that we must leave in an hour because there was a reservation. (There wasn’t a reservation, she was just rushing us for not having a reservation). The third person in our group was about 15 mins behind, and they asked us 6 times if we were ready to order. Where is your friend? She’s coming? You must order. We recommend the omakse (most expensive thing on the menu). Don’t forget you have to leave in an hour. We said no problem, that will be fine.
Relentless comments and questions until our friend arrived and we ordered. Throughout the meal she reminded us several more times that we must leave. The sushi chef apologized on her behalf, he knew how rude she was being.
The sushi was average. In my 31 years of life, I have never not tipped. I did not tip the server, I tipped the sushi chef in cash. Even though the sushi chefs at the front only prepared the nigiri and sashimi, I just could not believe the service.
This restaurant needs to change the way they’re running. Either only use the sushi bar for walk-ins and not rush people. Or change their format to reservation only. Done. Simple.

This place should be starrrred. Hard to get into, but so worth it when you do. Reasonable Omakase prices with unbeatable quality and service. I dare you to find better on the Peninsula. Maruyama is #1.

A little noisy but great value and great staff. I wish they had more wine options

I came here after seeing it recommended on a Bay Area food TikTok account but left underwhelmed. The omakase was nine pieces for $63, and while reasonably priced compared to some, the quality was average (the pics attached are the full omakase). The fatty tuna in particular didn’t have the richness or quality you’d expect from true toro. The highlights of the meal weren’t part of the omakase at all—the fried squid and spicy scallop roll were both pretty solid.
On the positive side, service was really good. Toward the end of the meal, soy sauce was accidentally spilled on someone in our party. The staff handled it with professionalism and kindness—immediately apologizing, and doing everything they could including offering to dry clean a jacket and giving gift cards. Their attentiveness and graciousness really stood out.
That said, the overall value for money just wasn’t there. We spent about $120 per person, but I didn’t have any particularly memorable or “signature” bites that justified the price point. While I truly appreciated the hospitality, I don’t think I’ll be back

While I devoured everything I ordered happily, the rushed service by one of the servers at the end put me off.
They were kind enough to put me at the counter when I came alone without a reservation at 7pm. However, if there was a time limit or an approaching reservation, they should have let me know beforehand.
I ordered 8 pieces of sashimi and the hamachi kama, all of which were fresh and delicious. I ordered one extra ikura nigiri at the end, which the rice was a bit too warm, but nothing to complain about.
My kama came out late, which I had no issues with as I kept ordering more nigiri’s, but what ruined the experience was when one of their servers came apologizing for the wait while delivering the kama, and then promptly dropped off the check, making me feel pressured to scarf that hot dish down. She continued to take payment and continued to come back while I was still trying to eat, making it a point that I need to leave. Mind you, the two couples next to me had arrived way before I did, and were not being rushed.
I understand there was one guest with an 8pm reservation that was waiting for my spot, but this should have been communicated to me beforehand. Also had I known hot dishes would take such a long time coming out, I would have not ordered the kama (which is a big piece of fish) and happily ordered more nigiri’s. I literally just had to inhale it rather than enjoy it.

The best authentic Japanese food you will ever have outside of Japan. Get the eggplant or the real crab based California hand roll

This place has very authentic sushi. Imported Japanese fish are fresh and flavorful. The other appetizers and rolls are excellent too. The only negative is they are very busy so our dinner felt a bit rushed. But if you are looking for good food, this place is one of the best Japanese restaurants on the peninsula.

We had a fantastic dinner, sat at the counter to watch the Masters do their magic. The food was just great, very good level of sushi, and a plus is that everyone is very welcoming. A big indicator that its great sushi is that the staff is from Japan and so were many of the guests dining. Luckily we found this place, we will return. Thank you so much!
