This is still the best representation of a classic edomae style sushi experience on the entire West Coast.

Reservations are extremely difficult to find, it's priced accordingly, but it's intimate and spectacular and the perfect place for a special occasion.

Little has changed over the last 10+ years we've been visiting, thankfully so. Across many visits to Japan, we still find Sushi Yoshizumi to be superior.

It is all the same fish anyways.

If you’re looking for a traditional omakase or sushi experience, this place is definitely a solid choice. The fish was fresh, the chef was professional, and overall I thought it was a good experience. Of course if you’re comparing it to places in New York or LA, or especially sushi in Japan, it’s not quite on that level. But for San Francisco, I think it holds up well. I’d still give it five stars.

The very best traditional sushi you'll find outside of Japan. This husband and wife duo are so humble and provide a top tier experience you will remember forever.

So....for paying over $400 for one person here, I was kind of expecting more from my experience. I felt like for the price, it was definitely lacking in many aspects. The omakase was good and you can tell that they used high quality ingredients,. There's also a lot of thought put into every dish... but I can't help but feel robbed by the price point set here. There are many other great omakases in the bay area.

I also felt neglected by service. There's one chef at the counter, but the whole meal felt like every non-Japanese speaker was neglected? For a meal at this caliber, I'd expect *some* sort of service, or for the chef to at least talk to us? But nah. Service was definitely lacking and for the price I would say it wasn't worth it.

Service from everyone else in the restaurant was great, everyone was very polite and the restaurant itself is very quaint and nice. It's just that the price point doesn't meet the expectations you'd normally get at a fine dining restaurant.

The restaurant is not easy to find because there's no sign. However, the server came out as soon as it opened. In general, I think the food is high quality but it's a little bit pricey compared with other sushi restaurants. The restaurant was recently removed from its Michelin star and I think it has a solid reason. Since there was only one server at the restaurant, the service can be less attentive. To me it is not a big issue but I think for Michelin it is an important index. I still need to point out that the service is still top tier though.

Let's focus on the food. All ingredients are seasonal and prepared well. For the appetizers, I like the ankimo the best. The grilled 目光(Mehikari) fish was also delicious. For the sushi parts, I found most dishes to be mediocre, considering they had a Michelin star before. However, there were still several dishes that really amazed me. I liked 春子鯛(Kasugo) and 穴子(Anago) the best. The sanma and ika geso were also delicious. However, for bluefin tuna only akami and chutoro were served, no otoro. Finally, I like the melon for the desserts.

In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant location is near the train track so you can hear the horn from time to time. Also, the air conditioning could be better in my opinion especially since it was a hot day when I visited. The sake served became warm quickly.

In general, I would still say this is a good sushi place but there may be better choices around the bay area.

Best Edomae-style sushi in the Bay Area. Otsumami are great and the nigiri series is also very solid. His shari is quite strongly flavored, so perhaps not for the newbies, but if you are into that, you'll love it.

Food was okay, but service was sloppy at best, there was one course where the rice wasn’t even sticking together, and the chef made no effort to even make the sushi stand. Pretty disappointment.

I’ve been to many omakase restaurants and this one had some of the most unique flavors I’ve ever had including fish I’ve never eaten before. 10/10 food, service, and experience. Very unassuming place where the food does the talking! Chef Yoshi even gave me some recs for Tokyo and nyc where I live.

One of the best omakase experience to date. The akamutsu (rosy sea bass) and ankimo (monk fish liver) were out of this world. Spectacular service.

Unbelievable. Expensive but you get what you pay for. So many amazing dishes. Fatty tuna, uni, etc etc. Sake pairing featured some very rare sakes.
