Most waiting experience ever. Have to wait 30 minutes because someone else took my food and the server didn’t even know about it

So good - balanced and aesthetically pleasing, but it’s still craveable Chinese fast food. The self-service sweets bar was a wonderful addition. Would take off points for the slightly steep price but it’s the Bay Area and I’ve paid more for worse, sadly.

I've been here twice. The food and atmosphere are good, but unfortunately, the hygiene is poor. I found a hair on my plate twice. The first time, I didn't say anything because the food was really delicious, but then I gave it a second try and came back a week later, and on my second visit, I found another hair. What a bad luck. I hope they take this messages into consideration and take action.

Decent selection of meat, seafood and veggies. I prefer the traditional 'communal' hotpot where you are offered better quality meat. This place is good for a quick fix for me just to get a taste of hotpot. There is only a few condiments unlike the typical place where you have over a dozen to fix your own dipping sauce.
$15.99/lb can get pricing if you are a big eater.

Another Malatang in downtown San Mateo. I didn’t compare the price but the environment is better than Zhangliang. I ordered the spicy broth and it tastes pretty good.

More pricier than expected, but generally happy with the food- a lot of items to choose from! Spicy soup is spicy at all tho

The soup is better than Guofu's, and the ingredients are richer and more delicious than Zhang Liang's. No tip is required for internal use. It's a pity that Nanwan hasn't deducted a point yet.

They use a huge amount of MSG in the broths which got me sick. Don't recommend this place if you are sensitive to this poison disguised as a flavor enhancer.

Newly opened Malatang restaurant.

Fresh ingredients and a clean environment. It’s a self-service setup.

Overall, a great experience!

I enjoy eating at this restaurant, however I wish they had more sauces like Zhangliang

Build your own bowl of protein, vegetables, and noodles, and broth of your choice will be added. Lots of food choices but be careful as these bowls are big! Pay by the weight.

Must go place, I do like the concept. Even tho it is self service, the decor makes it feel very elegant. The chicken soup is sooo goood. The cheese fish tofu is so good.

There is a lot of oil, but there is no animal aroma, the vegetables are relatively fresh, and the soup base tastes average. The price is more than 20 dollars per serving, but the quality of the beef is average. I won’t eat it next time.

The ambiance was nice but somewhat loud. They have a lot of choices but I thought the broth was too salty.
