We love Tokie’s and have been regular users since the mid-80s, when it occupied a tiny space in Charter Square in Foster City. They expanded their space significantly but were the casualty of redevelopment. Their old location was displaced by a primary school. The newer location (on 4th Ave in downtown San Mateo) has very nice ambience but the parking can be a challenge during peak demand times like Friday and Saturday dinners. We bring many of our friends to Tokie’s and the response is always very favorable.

Amazing service, food and drinks are fantastic! We were helped by a server Logan, she’s been the best part of the experience at Tokie’s. Fish is super fresh, I highly recommend getting Tokie’s roll and seared scallops (aburi sushi). Yum! Can’t wait to come back.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had!! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, and we were amazed! First off- Ryan the bartender- has an amazing collection of handcrafted cocktails and shots that are a MUST HAVE! The chefs are extremely talented. We had the pleasure of meeting Takuya who made the freshest most flavorful sushi I’ve ever tried. 12/10 experience, highly highly recommend!!

Service was wonderful, but the food left much to be desired. Yakitori came with a sticker still on the pepper, and the sushi rolls ordered seemed to be lower quality and tasted bland.

Good food and great service! The nabeyaki udon was probably our favorite - the broth was flavorful, light, and refreshing. Everything was good though. Very clean, good vibes, had the basketball game on.

A true Bay area gem for authentic, traditional and delicious Japanese cuisine, delicious homemade favorites, inventive sushi and incredibly fresh sashimi. This is Japanese food at it finest!

Delicious fish dinner and combo appetizer plate. Nice staff, feels like a family business.

Service was slow and not very attentive albeit we had a large party. Food was very good.

Wow. Delicious, classic Japanese dishes and just topnotch hospitality. First time eating here last night with a huge group and everything we ordered was incredible. My favorites were the miso corn, chicken karaage, miso soup, and the diane roll! Can't wait to come back.

Best sushi spot on the peninsula. The food, the drinks, the ambiance, the service...it all makes for an incredibly fun evening. Can't think of a restaurant with a happier vibe than Tokie's. Family run, family friendly, a cherished staple of the San Mateo community. The owners, Diane and Vic, are wonderfully kind, welcoming, and hardworking folks. It's not uncommon for them to stop by your table, say hi, and sometimes drop off an extra little treat if you're a frequent diner. Dine at a table, at the sushi bar, or at the drinks bar, which has a TV, making it a great spot to watch a Warriors game.
