I had some of the best shrimp heads I’ve tasted in ages — crispy and meaty to perfection. The nigiri was solid, definitely worth coming back for, and the fish bone marrow was a wild surprise — like biting into a cloud that had been marinated in pure ocean. The sushi rice was soft and pleasant, though I still think Ebisu wears the crown when it comes to nigiri rice.

Absolutely incredible as always! Our friend Evan brought us- the best omakase in the bay for sure. We've done a small dinner and a large group where we rented out the whole side room, and both were absolutely incredible! And the staff are so friendly and warm. Go and get some fish, you won't regret it!

I have been to this restaurant four times and the everything was mediocre three out of the four.
The biggest regret is I brought my out-of-town guests here, hoping their lunch specials would impress. My guests ended up footing the killer bill for mediocrity.
For the price they charge, you kinda expect most things to be way better.
But their Chicken Katsu is way worse than Kobeya Restaurant's.
Their tempura is way worse than Joy Sushi's.
And their Sashimi is thinly sliced with only 5 pieces, some of which is no better than supermarket bentos'.
We paid $100+ for a $60 lunch.
I had a bad feeling after drinking their subpar miso soup and tried to cancel one bento, but they said no.
I would not mind paying more for good ingredients and exceptional cooking, but after these meals, I realize that the owners just like to take your money.

Simply put: best sushi in San Mateo. That is a big compliment with joints like Sam’s in town. Chef’s choice delivers high quality food. Dishes are authentic and genuine. Mind though that the place is very small and can sometimes feel crammed.

Fish cuts were good although nothing exceptional, pricing standard Bay area high.
Jammed into a corner of an empty restaurant with a table almost attached to the table of a group of shouting businesspeople made for an unbearable experience, so we left as rapidly as possible.

I tried their chicken teriyaki lunch plate and it was really good. The chicken was well marinated it also came with some rice and a side salad. Plate was clean and I enjoyed every bite. Also I ordered their sauce on the side and that was one of the best sauces I've tasted.

Lovely sushi joint around San Mateo, they have a small restaurant on one side and the other side is for private events. The service here is incredible and very friendly.
All the food we ordered was very good and tasted fresh.
11-piece nigiri (super) - this was a fun platter with many varieties of fish. Every piece was really good
Karaage - love the couple of shisito peppers they add. The karaage itself has a thicker batter than what I’m used to but the chicken is well marinated
San Mateo - California roll with minced tuna and tobilo on top. Their California roll uses real crab meat and you can definitely tell the difference from imitation crab
The only downside is that it is pricier than other sushi options nearby. We ordered three things and with tips / tax was over $110

The small dining room makes each table feel private, food was great and prepared quickly. Several specials other people ordered that I'd like to go back for

One of the few Japanese owned Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area. Chinese owned Japanese restaurants are lacking quality and service, which doesn't give them the right to charge such high prices. Please support this place at all costs!

Service is good but very pricy for mediocre sushi. The two piece Uni sushi is 23 dollars and not fresh…
