I was excited to try Zen Noodle Bar because the menu has lots of classic Szechuan dishes. I had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and Beef Wrap. Both dishes were overly sweet and had the same foul taste of cheap vegetable oil. The Spicy Beef Noodle Soup didn't have any Szechuan peppercorn numbing spice, or really any spiciness at all. The service was good, so I do appreciate that!
Superb Shanghainese cuisine with modern twist. For instance, chilled cucumber with chili oil. Tang Yuan in micro size. All very good, reasonable portions, and not salty or greasy. Went there for dinner on Wed and returned for lunch the next day!
Honestly unexpectedly good food. The dumplings are top notch. The restaurant feels really messy and a little unhygienichonestly, although the staff was friendly.I see a lot of people to take out which I guess makes sense. Worth trying the dumplings for sure although if the owners clean up the place there's a lot of potential.
