Meh.
I'll have to give The Kitchen Table another try, but first visit revealed the restaurant equivalent of "all hat, no cattle."
Great atmosphere, but a play-it-safe menu and an outnumbered kitchen staff resulted in a just ok experience. Clumsy salad, watery bolognese, gooey under-baked bread-- these were all disappointing.
Front-of-house is on point and wine knowledge was great. $$$

It's been a long time since I've been down 4th street in San Rafael, and I'll tell you...It's places like The Kitchen Table Restaurant that bind a community together. If not for these strongholds of society, San Rafael would quickly become just another dumping ground for the mentally unstable...It might be to late already.
The chicken dinner was just as Spectacular as the service...5 stars.

Excellent dining experience. All the food was superbly cooked and presented, with sensible potion sizes. Wait staff were top notch. Thoroughly recommended.

I'm calling michelin star in their future. The starter truffle ravioli is so decadent and rich you can't have more than one. Me and my friend shared one and then stopped all the yumminess with their wonderful bread. I have the shrimp tagliatelle and she had the pasta carbonara. We wanted seconds to take home because couldn't see not having some the next day. We live 2 hours away and happened to be working at a wedding nearby and google searched a place to eat. But we wanted a nice dinner. This is a small place so make sure to have a reservation. The service was better than some fine dining restaurants I've been in from the greeting at the door, to using a crumber to make sure our dining experience was top notch. No rushed service. People around us were long time patrons who were bringing their friends. Other dishes looked amazing. I'll be back

Outstanding.Would describe the restaurant lay out as being just the right side of minimalist or less-is-more, yet still warm and inviting. The staff were simply wonderful; attentive but never intrusive, knowledgable, and reminding me of the professionalism you see in a 1 star establishment. Note: Extra special thanks to Buffy.I sat on a high chair/counter next to the kitchen to watch Chef and his team. The bread and butter (so often a let down) was delicious. I was a bit worried about their interpretation of the steak tartare appetizer but it was a revelation..highly recommended. The carbonara was also delicious, as was the wonderful Pinot Grigio which was very well priced. Pizza looked very good (not my thing). I would describe the overall restaurant vibe/atmosphere as convivial and relatively subdued, with everyone focused on the fabulous quality of the food.I am literally returning this evening. It's that good.
