I had an incredible experience at Swaraj Restaurant in San Ramon, a true gem for anyone craving authentic Marathi cuisine. The flavors were rich, traditional, and reminiscent of home. We tried a variety of dishes, including roti, bharle vange, chicken lollipop, fish gravy, Vada Pav, Pav bhaaji and varan bhaat- each one was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. To top it off, we enjoyed refreshing drinks like beer, sol kadhi, and lassi, which complemented the meal beautifully.
The ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic. It’s steeped in the rich traditions of Maharashtra, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel connected to the culture. From the decor to the food, everything exudes authenticity and love for the cuisine.
A big shoutout to the staff, especially Mohan and Raj, who were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Their hospitality truly enhanced the dining experience - they went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and happy.

We like the food here. It is very tasty, flavorful and fresh. Eggplant Bharta is the best I have had in the US. However, the food is extremely spicy for those who aren’t used to it. They could add different spice levels so that everyone can enjoy all dishes. They also have very few Veg items. They can add more of veg items. Otherwise, glad to have this restaurant in San Ramon
Went to Swaraj on our visit to the Bay Area from SoCal. It was a wonderful experience on all fronts. The Maharashtrian food was delicious and authentic. We tried 4 entrees and Piyush and were impressed by them all. Service by Mohan and Raj was excellent, even the robot server was a cool novelty. The ambiance was surprisingly upscale with nice Maharashtrian decorations and flyers of festivals. Hands down five star restaurant. Prices were also reasonable for the quality.
Mohan gave us great recommendations, everything we tried was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Bharli Vangi and the shrimp malwani. My entire family enjoyed the flavors and we will come back to try more dishes.
