Chapter One: the modern local

Tahari was our waiter he made us aware of the seasonal Manhattan, answered all of our questions. food was amazing (try bacon wrap meatloaf) all creations available of the most, options for everyone. We had the best meal at Chapter One. Our server suggested the best food. The cutest little gem of a restaurant. We are not from the area, but we will definitely be back.

This place had terrible service- do not go here!! Our reservations were for 7pm and it took until 8:45pm to get our drinks and one of the people in our party didn't even get their drink after asking repeatedly. The waitress took our food order but, didn't put it in. When we asked the manager about our food, he said there was no order for us in the kitchen and just walked away. There was no resolution from the manager. We had friends that had been at this place in Apr and experience similar poor service- they thought it was a one off. If you value your time and money, do not eat here. There are some other great restaurants in the area.

The place is very nice and comfortable. Drinks were good and food was pretty good. Only issue is the smell. The place smells like a thrift store.

Sat at the bar and ordered the BBQ Burger with duck fat fries. Have to say…it was excellent. What made the experience awesome was Andy their bartender. His old fashion is hard to beat and he had some great conversations.

We celebrated a birthday here with a group of 9 of us. The inside of this place was very nice, our waitress was also extremely helpful and attentive with our table. We did the bottomless mimosa flight, definitely recommend. The food is very good here and the whole table enjoyed their food. Spoke with the manager here I believe his name was JJ. Super nice and helpful. They even did a little birthday ice cream surprise which we really appreciated. Thank you guys for the overall great experience.

There was no wait. Our server was delightful and very helpful. We got the Feta & Steak Tip salad which was delicious. It was seasoned lightly with a sun-dried tomato vinaigrette and it plenty of micro-greens which was excellent. The only thing I would not recommend are the Brussel sprouts. They weren't very crispy, the hot/honey didn't really add much flavor to them, and they were drenched in either the honey or the oil; hard to tell. I would have used a larger cast iron to allow for more crisp.

Wanted something delicious and quick because we were on a time crunch. Ryan was so attentive and made sure our food came out quick. Not to mention it was so delicious! I got the heart of palm tacos and my friends got the lumpia and we really enjoyed it. We definitely will be back ;-)

Friendly staff and great vibes.

The food was great, we all enjoyed it and were very happy.On the way to bathroom and i crossed the manager the smell of alcohol from him was very strong. I asked one of the servers to stop serving that person alcohol he laughed and said thats the manager. We enjoyed the service and atmosphere was nice, but a note to the owner with help like that we are not coming back.

The Royale with Cheese that would have Jules and Vincent busting for more. You have to try it. The best darn burger around.

That said - now more than ever - please support restaurants and all businesses in DTSA. It’s so eerily quiet that I could swear it feels like Covid all over again. Don’t buy into the fears in the press. Come on down. Plenty of parking. Excellent food. And it’s quiet and safe. Please support DTSA and shop local. Your tummy will thank you and so will the local owners.

And yes - Chapter One never disappoints. Amazing food at fair prices. A whiskey / bourbon list that will satisfy any fan of liquid gold. Today was the Royale - tomorrow might be the steak and feta salad. There just isn’t a bad thing on the menu.

Our meal was delicious. The service was poor at the start; improved a lot after the owner began talking with us. Great atmosphere in a cool area of town.
