If you just need a quick bite before your flight, Ruby's can an option, but don't set up high expectations 😉
The Ruby's Burger 🍔 I had was plain without good taste, the patty was just too dry, the side salad 🥗 came with it was probably prepared overnight, as all the greens were dry and not fresh at all.
Meanwhile, the decorations here is not nostalgic at all, improvements is suggested.

No one would wait on us. Server talking to another customer ignored us. Asked another server for help very rude. Said our server would help. We left. They were not busy.

We were here on a Tuesday morning so your mileage may vary, but the tuna melt may have been the best sandwich I've ever had. It had me looking to see if a Ruby's diner was in our state. Drinks and service were good as well, above average for any restaurant not just airports.

Fries cool quickly then are pretty lame. They don't have milkshakes despite basically every promotional image including one

Ruby’s Diner at SNA Airport is outstanding! The employees here are some of the hardest-working I’ve ever seen — friendly, fast, and always on top of everything even when it’s busy. The food comes out hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked every time. The service is amazing, and the whole place has that classic, welcoming Ruby’s vibe. Easily one of the best spots to grab a meal before a flight!

Used to love this place prior to a flight. Reasonable price for a sit down restaurant, fast service, etc…nothing creative on the menu, just normal diner food. Here’s the thing…what is the point of a waitress when you use an app to order and pay? Robots are coming soon! I know, I know..the whole, “get off my lawn” old complaint. I love me some technology, but if we’re gonna do that, make it work well. Problem 1: The breakfast used to come with breakfast potatoes, but their new crappy app doesn’t say anything about these. Did the show up? Yes, but huge pet peeve when menu’s are not complete. 2. Wanted 3 eggs vs 2…no easy way to do that. So hey app builder person…work on that. 3. Why the hell did I pay 20% gratuity for something I did half the work on? So…will I go in the future, maybe. Was always a tradition and i’m just not sure now. Oh, the price has increased by at least 40% from my calculations.

Nice to have a monopoly in the airport as it was $60 for 2 cheese burgers and fries that you could get a McDonald's.

No host/hostess. No menus, except my QR code. QR menu has no photos and is incomplete. I've eaten here many times. This is my last.

Found myself at John Wayne Airport a few weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised to find they had a Ruby's Diner. Unfortunately, they were out of coffee and didn't sell ice-cream. I've never been to a diner before that was out of coffee and didn't sell ice-cream. Kind of like going to a bar and them being out of beer, or going to a bakery and them being out of pastries. Kind of weird. Anyways, I ordered a veggie burger and sweet potato fries, and they were delicious. And the service was very good. Maybe in a place like that, it's not cost effective to brew a fresh pot of coffee every hour, but maybe the should think about getting single serve coffee/tea machine for odd customers like me. Also, I think they should rethink their ice-cream policy. If they sold ice-cream there, I bet that would be the busiest place there. Not everyone's looking to have a full meal. There's probably a lot of people that would order a super sundae and a cup of coffee if it were on the menu, who might not otherwise stop by.
Great vibes and service, but the burger tasted like cardboard, zero flavor. Fries were ok.
