We come here often since we attend many of the programs. It has been declining for some time. One of our favorites was the tuna melt but it was taken off the menu over a year or more ago. It was back on this visit however it was nothing more than two pieces of toast with Tuna, lettuce and tomatoes and cheese. The cheese isn't melted. There are currently only 8 menu items but we're told they are revamping everything. I understand the burger is always good.
The ambience is neat and clean and modern, but nothing to write home about. The prices are comparable to family cafes and so is the food. I liked the chairs. They supported your back, so it was comfortable seating. The service was excellent.
Because of the recent "Terracotta Warriors" exhibition at the Bowers Museum, I took guests to Tangata twice over the past weeks after not having been there for several years. I had been a little worried after seeing a few middling reviews dating from that time period, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the service, and especially the delightful ambience that I had remembered from past visits.
