We went to Dune Coffee Roasters on State Street during a weekend getaway with two other couples, and this place absolutely hit the mark. The day before, we stopped at Handlebar for matcha, but it was honestly really watered down and just not great. So the next day we gave Dune Coffee a try, and wow, this was exactly what we were anticipating in terms of flavor and quality.
The ceremonial grade strawberry matcha was phenomenal. Hands down one of the best matchas we have ever had. They actually use real strawberries that are crushed into it, and it even had this strawberry dust sprinkled on top. The flavor was so smooth, not too bitter, not too sweet, just perfect. My wife and I are total matcha connoisseurs down in Orange County, and we were blown away by this one. The drinks were gone within seconds.
Our friends that were with us own a coffee shop, and even they were super impressed with the espresso and how fresh and flavorful the beans were. You can tell this is a true coffee place where they care about the craft and the quality.
We also grabbed a croissant and a chocolate croissant, both really flaky and delicious. Not sure if they were made in-house, but they tasted like they were. Everything from the drinks to the pastries was just on point.
If you are visiting Santa Barbara and want a spot that actually takes pride in what they make, this is it. We will 100 percent be coming back every time we are in town! Thank you for the staff being super sweet and kind as well!

This place is not to be missed, their coffee is well sought out and brewed to perfection literally.
There’s somebody who specializes in pour overs and I’ve never had one created with as much care and abstracting the flavour from the beans as the person purveying mine.
The location has an amazing vibe, the people are phenomenal!

"DUNE: what they don't do," is the brand of service we can expect from over there at that coffee house. A self refuting business model that doesn't generate the necessary revenue to cover overhead for payroll rent utilities and insurance, it's 'the invisible cup and the invisible tea' kind of place for product and service. Names like, "Mal," "Meredith," "Sadie" and "Kiera" confront clientele as operatives; and it doesn't matter how much is tipped, they're just not here for that, whatever it is. Strange situation indeed.

They recommended it to us because it is very famous in Santa Barbara and very good. We ordered takeaway drinks

Honestly, im just salty that there are no outlets here. The one outlet in the back… got pulled out? Had to relocate to lighthouse for my second cup and to get my work done. Im not gona even bother coming to dune next time i gotta get work done. Other than that place is good.

My daily cup since 2009. They always seem to be looking for improvement even while they are the best.

Unfortunately Dune has gotten greedy. Prices have sky rocketed. I have been a regular customer of beans for a few years and the price just keeps going up. 3 weeks ago I purchased beans for $47. I walk in yesterday and I’ve been informed that prices have increased to $57.
I’m happily shifting my support for other, less greedy coffee shops
The food we got was great, but the servers were very snappy and seemed annoyed at each other and the customers.
They forgot to give me a spoon for my meal, which is completely fine, but then they couldn't agree which one of the two should give me a spoon, because they both felt they were too busy to give me my spoon. I had to stand there waiting while they passively aggressively told each other that they both had their hands full.

Ordered a cappuccino, something about it didn't taste right, like the milk didn't go well with the coffee. A little sour / bitter. Always disappointing when you've spent $6 on a coffee

Dune was a pleasant surprise in Santa Barbara - a truely specialty coffee. I really enjoyed my pour over, and got a bag of their Panamanian beans - a real treat.

These guys are the real deal. The pour-overs are fantastic, and the local roasts are top-notch. I've enjoyed having coffee here and ordering it to brew at home back in New York. Looking forward to coming back the next time in town!

Local cafe with crafted drinks and pastries. A common hangout for regulars. 3rd wave coffee style is the standard. Servuce is prompt and speedy. The layout is simple with outdoor and indoor tables. As usual an ideal place to work or meet up for a cup of coffee.

Great place for studying/working, and a popular spot to go to. Staff was very friendly, didn’t personally talk to them but I did see a some baristas making conversations with locals, very nice to see. Music was good for vibing with personally, lots of Taylor Swift. There are bathrooms, water cups, plenty of seating and wifi available for customers. I got a large Vanilla Latte and I recommend: I will probably come back some time!
