Today was our first time dining at Flor De Maiz but won't be the last. It's a great spot for lunch, enjoying the beautiful Santa Barbara waterfront from its outdoor seatings. My husband and I shared the quesadillas del Huerto and the pork shank. The quesadillas were served in the home made corn tortillas, three different fillings, mild but flavorful. The only suggestion I have is to lay the three quesadillas in the order from the most mild (zucchini blossoms) to the most robust(green chilies) so that the diners can start from the most mild one first. The pork shank was cooked in a robust sauce but not spicy. It came with the delicious refried black beans and tender home made corn tortillas. The serving size is generous enough to be shared. The service was warm, attentive. We left with the desire to return in order to try more dishes .

Walked up and snotty host wasn’t so pleasant, unprofessional and unfortunately we didn’t get to try the food as it was recommended to us. She took the couple before us and tried to tell us 25 minute wait and just her attitude alone made us disgusted. Please hire a better host..

Update:
I used to love this place, and you can see my original positive review from a few years ago below. Unfortunately, during a recent visit, a piece of metal was found in my family member’s taco. It turned out to be from a metal cleaning sponge used in the kitchen. Before this incident, we had also found hair in the food but chose to keep coming back, understanding that accidents can happen. However, the metal piece was unacceptable and concerning enough for us to decide not to return. The kitchen staff needs to be more careful to ensure food safety and prevent exposure to any foreign objects that could cause harm.

Great specialty Mexican food. Great unique flavors and presentation. Love the shrimp, lobster, and fish tacos , cebiches enchiladas, the cilantro rice and more delicious dishes to try😀Gets pretty busy.
