1. My girlfriend and I were here on a Wednesday night at around 5:30pm for happy hour and there were only 2 other groups in the whole restaurant. Despite this, the greeter offered us the choice of two high-top tables in the corner or the bar... Normally, this would be no problem, but the weather was great and we didn't understand why we couldn't sit out back in the patio area... Oh well. 2. Once we were seated, the table was dirty (sticky, food remnants still on the table). Again, no problem, we just brushed the food off ourselves and didn't really think anything of it. 3. From the happy hour menu, we ordered the blistered brussel sprouts, mussels, and fried chicken with a glass of red and a Scrimshaw. The brussels sprouts and mussels were alright, but the chicken was inedible -- really inedible. I don't know about you, but normally when you order fried chicken you would expect it to be, oh, I don't know, FRIED! What we actually received were charred pieces of who knows what part of the chicken smothered in some kind of sauce you might expect of General Tso's chicken from a cheap Chinese food carry-out place. Seriously it was bad... When you put the chicken in your mouth it was nearly impossible to chew and tasted as if it had been scraped off the bottom of a frying pan with a pry bar. The scrimshaw I ordered was fine, but my girlfriend said her glass of house red wine was super bitter. The water tasted great!! Unfortunately, they were never refilled them and the glasses sat empty for the majority of our time there. 4. The service was equally as atrocious as the chicken. As I said, the place was nearly empty, but it took well over 30 minutes to get our food (remember, we just ordered apps from the happy hour menu). When I told our server about the chicken, he laughed and said "yeah, I thought it looked like there was something wrong with it". 5. To top everything off, the place was just absolutely filthy! I've worked in hotels before, so I know the deal with commercial cleaning and this was REALLY bad... As I said in the beginning, the table was sticky (so sticky that my wallet got stuck to it and pulled a little piece of paint off the table) and there was still food remnants left from the previous guests because it obviously hadn't been wiped. Forget the table though, just look around a little and you will see that the place is just CAKED in dust. Air vents, light fixtures, windowsills, and even the crossbars underneath the hightop tables. Dusting is one of the easiest things you can do in a commercial space to make a place "appear" clean, and they weren't even doing that. If the front-of-house was this dirty, I can only imagine what the kitchen and dish pit looks like. All in all, steer clear! I really felt bad for the 2 or 3 groups that walked in after us... DO NOT let the hipster decorations or their fancy website fool you!

Food is nothing special, but the backyard patio is one of the nicest places to enjoy a meal in town.

We did our rehearsal dinner at Smithy's. We sat in the courtyard at the 20 person table. We had very intense critics within our group - frenchmen that were previous chefs and have an eye for great food an ambiance. Let's just say they loved the food. They absolutely raved about how delicious it was. When the sun set and the twinkle lights came on, they were blown away by the beauty of the courtyard. In the daytime, the white courtyard is also stunning. Hannah was great with making a menu for us. There were actually beautiful flowers on the table that made the evening so classic. Thank you for the great dinner on such an important wedding weekend for us!

Had a great experience at Smithy Kitchen + Bar. Our server, Michael, was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food and the drinks were presented beautifully and tasted even better. The atmosphere out in the back patio was so fun. A great place all around. Will be back.

What a great experience and the food was awesome! Sit outside it is beautiful! Try the brussel sprouts, skirt steak and don't miss the chocolate cake!

Beautiful decor and delicious food. However all of that means little if the person greeting you has a major attitude and made me want to walk back out the door.

Oh my god!!!! Finally - we have a restaurant that's beautiful (with a touch of trendy) and sophisticated with delicious entrees and small plates. I picked this place based off of its branding alone while driving down the street... and it is ON POINT. People!!! if you don't want to eat the same boring entrees over and over again please come here and be happy. Reservations are a must but dinner at the bar is equally fun!!! Just get one of everything! And... you're welcome.

A very nice new restaurant in downtown. Nice atmosphere. Patio is great (not sure about those mirrors though, treillis with vines would fit better). The food is original ( nice carrot dish and squid ink pasta). Loved the sauce! Portions have the right size. Service was nice, may be a little inexperienced ( please change plates between fish and meat dishes). A bit pricey....overall a very nice dinner. Will come back.

Perfect place for a nice date night. The salmon on forbidden rice was delicious and melted in my mouth! Portions are just right, nothing too filling and the tastes are absolutely delicious.

I made this reservation for our 9th wedding anniversary so it was obviously important. I made sure to let them know what the occasion was because of course the restaurants do""something"" for you and give you that little bit of extra attention. So your arriving we were greeted quickly but a nice guy that wasn't a host or waiter but trying to make sure we got helped asap. I forgot his name but I'm pretty sure he is Italian and he was tall, im sure he was tall just not positive he was Italian. He was told by another co-worker or manager to let the hostess take care of us cause he doesn't know how. It was a pretty rude thing to say to this guy we thought. Our table wasn't ready so we decided to sit at the bar and wait which is fine so we could order a drink the bar was not invited bowl and actually pretty messy / dirty. We asked the barkeep some advice on drinks and the communication was opposite of friendly... Actually it was more just not interactive... Not fun... Not a good taste to start the night I guess you could say. My wife noticed the dead air around us right away...i usually notice but don't care or let anything bother me cause I'm in my own bubble in my head most of the time as I understand that nothing really matters. I don't know what that means but it sounded better in my head. We got our drinks and they tasted fine... No issue there. The outside was very nice and we were actually surprised about how nice the setting was. So props to that part of the experience. Stupidly brought our own wine and asked the waitress how much the greatly be over inflated cost of the courage free is and the clear answer was $25. (Side note: I've worked in restaurants all my life and I know why they charge this fee and i do not agree with this trend that fancy a** places just now up the process so that you will basically not BYO bottle. Here is a quick tip .. Try only having a cork fee equal to the effort it takes to open the bottle and pour it for your customers that are most likely about to drop a load on food in your establishment. Maybe 5 bucks, or even $10 I can understand since we are in SB and have to pay more to eat along side of the homeless on the sidewalk out front. Why charge so little you wonder? Here is why... What if it is a special date night and the couple had a special bottle that they had on their 1st date and you of do not stock this wine? The normal is you charge them a astronomical amount equal to more than the cost of a entire bottle. The next thing that happens is the customer does not order as much cause the bill is already so high. (OR) they ask about the corkage fee before they make the reservation and you tell them this horrible amount and they eat somewhere else. Then there is this option: charge them $10 and limit it to 1 bottle per table. Most likely they will finish it and then order a drinks. Ok sorry about that babble... Here is our complaint about the scallops we ordered. We were really looking forward to them,,,,, all two of them. Yes the plate came and there were two scallops and they are not that big and they are not that cheap. I will say they were amazing and flavor was mouth-numbing. Ya, I said numb. Figure it out. Just in case you can't, it means 'very good'. I would never order that again if we go back though...only cause the amount equal to 4 minus 2. I rarely see a restaurant give 2 pieces of anything that often, especially that which is equal i size to the after dinner mints. The food was good overall but the service just straight out spoiled the night. However, we were congratulated at the very very last minute before we left. Did i say that earlier? I wrote this months ago but just realized I never finished it so whatever i said and whatever I didn't say.....thats just how it is and I apoligize to the readers. I hope at least you got a good laugh but as for the restaurant I do really want to say again...the service we received was bad and we have not bee

Myself and a group of 6 friends celebrated my birthday on the patio last Thursday night. Not only was the food incredible (Truffle pizza, perfectly seared scallops and the mushroom risotto) but our server was amazing too! We found a bottle of wine that all enjoyed (x4) and after we asked for the heater, it was a very pleasant and beautiful dining experience. I can't wait to go back.

After my experience I was thinking to give this place on star, but I figure that it wasn't fair to punish the Restaurant for one individual. We set a the bar with few friends, the place is beautiful, great ambiance, great music and great drinks !! The only negative aspect was the actitud of the Bartender OMG !! He had the worse actitud I ever encounter In a Restaurant, he was rude, disrespectful and very unprofessional he made us feel very unwelcome, he should be there is he is so miserable !!!! At work. I would go back to this place but I will never seat at the Bar again. Be aware do not seat at the Bar if you want to be treat properly!!
