I've been coming here for years to watch sports. I came today to watch the NFL draft (round 1). When I asked the bartender if he could change one of the TVs to it he said people like the NBA playoffs and he hasn't been able to change the other TVs channels. He said he's try. That easy a lie. He never attempted to change it. Instead the other TVs played essentially infomercials. Terrible terrible service.

Sat down at the bar for late lunch on Tuesday, 3/15. Our experience went downhill from there. The bartender/server exhibited no interest in helping us other than hanging out with another group of people at the other end of the bar. We ordered rose-he said they were out. We ordered a Chardonnay-he said they were out. He offered up a French Sauvignon Blanc but it was actually Picpoul. A bartender should know what they have. We settled for beverages they did have and ordered burgers and a salad. We asked for a side of mustard for the burgers. When our meal arrived they were all packed in containers to go. He simply handed us the bag. When we inquired why they were packed to go he simply said that was the way the kitchen packed them. When we couldn’t find the mustard he said - they were out. It’s difficult to conceive of how/why the server or the manager wouldn’t have asked one of the other establishments for mustard, or that they couldn’t have had someone resupply two of their five wine options, after lunch, even if the selections were temporary.Hopefully, The Garden will take some very small steps, which will result in little/no cost to them, to provide a better experience to their patrons, especially since the food itself was mediocre. It will take a lot of convincing before I try it again to find out.

Santa Barbara Public Market is growing and filled with various food/beverage options. I'm a big fan of having multiple businesses under one roof, having gone to school in Boston I always enjoyed my visits to the famous Faneuil Hall Marketplace. This is far from that, but the feel is there. Big plus, you can bring food from anywhere in the market and sit at The Garden. The Garden is a big bar area at the front entrance, relative to the hall, with various beers and wines. They also have a few televisions so it's a good spot to congregate and eat/consume. it's an easy spot to grab some grub and a beer, totally casual. There is a bit of a premium on the beer.

Not good. Terrible, indifferent service - they don’t ever care enough to be rude. You arrive, they grab your credit card, and then your best bet is to pray for mercy. This place is set up to serve tourists who don’t know better and will never be back anyway. There are so many great places nearby, don’t waste your time and money at The Garden. Lousy service, bad selection.

Darn it. I wanted to like this place so much. I did, for years. Heck, I gave them a five-star rating a mere two days prior. Can't say that I am much of a fan anymore. Changing my review to three stars due to the bartender's lack of service. We waited 10 minutes as he went on his phone and helped others after us. Not worth the time when there are so many other bars in Santa Barbara. We left without service. I hope that ownership takes note of their staff's level of service and implements measures to improve upon it. A busy bar is one thing; the staff member scrolling through his phone while there are patrons waiting is a whole other level of low. You're going to lose customers! I now understand why this venue has an average rating of three stars, not four or five. A mediocre experience overall. Regretfully, I probably will not be back.

I served at the Garden for some time. As I read these reviews I find it fascinating how people love to criticize and complain when things don't go their way. The last year was incredibly difficult for the entire service industry. We were short staffed, wearing masks behind a plastic wall. In order to make our model work we had to change the menu several times . Our guest had to social distance, wait longer wear mask, eat outdoors etc... What little empathy people have for servers dealing with guests who simply think they are always right, then take their one sided story to Yelp. These people are cowards and have little empathy for those trying to serve guest to feed their family. I personally worked 11 hours a days for 6 months. Yelp has become a place for social criticism from people who may have been kicked out (TomB,) or didn't get enough attention in a bustling environment, Sometimes servers didn't get product, their kids are sick, people are drunk and you are verbally abused by customers. I'm many cases I have read below the customers were out of line and don't tell the full story. There are many great regulars at The Garden and it's a very busy place. The beers are excellent and it's the best place to watch sports in town. Unfortunately most people don't use Yelp to tell the great stories. That's OK, the Garden is busy because we are loved. I enjoyed my tenure there and all the excellent guests whom I still very friendly with. The rotten apples will not spoil my fond memories. I feel sorry for the negative remarks and "Karen's who simply need a hug. Mick Jagger said " you don't always get what you want" Mick is a wise man. Remember friends that cancel culture is poison and have some empathetic for this serving you. Especially after you have been drinking. Cheers and all the best to those I had the honor and privilege of serving. Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes.

this place is not worth the exorbitant prices and rude, inattentive bar staff. it's not hard to see when someone is sitting at the bar trying to get your attention. like... it's literally your job, not social hour. f this place

$16 for a very small glass of wine? The bartender said nothing..how about, oh, here's a wine list or this is how much it is. Just poured and then slapped down the ticket..when I said, $16??? He just shrugged, "I don't make the prices"..and walked off. So, crappy drink prices AND service..got it. Go elsewhere..being a resident of SB, I'll be sure to stay away and advise visitors the same.

We had been walking around all morning and decided to go to the Public Market for possible lunch to see what places still open during COVID-19 times. The Garden was opened with limited food but it had taquitos so I ordered. These were the best taquitos I have ever eaten. Shell crispy, just enough spice, great amount of guacamole in the middle and queso fresco on the top. The only issue was it took a long time for the order to be completed, about 15 minutes. There are only 4 food items on the menu so that was only reason it was 4 stars instead of 5. When I come back to Santa Barbara I plan on going there again.

I came here and had a not so good experience, but the owner reached out and rectified it. Over all the beer selection is good, and the 3 bites I had of the food were delicious. Going to give this place a second try!

Really great beer case, but my dinner sat for 15 minutes while I waited in line just to buy a beer.

Although our meal took longer than expected, the staff were amazing in accommodating us and addressing the issue.Been coming here for years and the Garden has yet to disappoint. Great menu, delicious beverages. Thanks to the crew at The Garden!

The Garden GM Stephen Goularte is an incompetent, arrogant a**hole. I'm writing this in the time of covid when he was managing (or attempting to manage) the take out option for the Public Market. I ordered from Corazon Cocina (which deserves 5 stars, btw) and could see that my order was ready and waiting for me when I arrived to pick it up. It was on the other side of the glass close enough to where I was standing that I could see my name and order number. I politely attempted to inform him of this and that all he had to do was to hand me my order. He refused to check that it was indeed my order (which, again, had my order number and name listed on it), yelled at me to stand outside, and ultimately made me wait an extra 35 minutes before I was able to get another employee to check and give me my order which by then of course was cold. When I attempted to inform him that he'd just made me wait an extra 35 minutes for nothing he screamed, "I don't give a s***! Get the f*** out of here!" Which I did. And I won't be back to The Garden or Wine+Beer again. Stephen Goularte should fire himself for exemplifying the antithesis of good customer service and general human decency and for his complete failure to exhibit the bare minimum competence in managing a food service operation.

I’ll say I’ve come to the beer garden twice to watch the game on tv. Love the selection of beer and the atmosphere. It would be so much better if Ryan didn’t work here. I’ll ask to turn on the game and both times he’s very rude for reason and unfortunately I’ve let him ruin both of my experiences coming here. Someone should talk to him to see if he’s doing okay.
