Had a excellent experience here with my kids. The food comes out fast and the service is just good. Prices are affordable.

Previous Review from Yelp 9/18: Are you ready for long waits and alright fish? Do you want to have ~fine~ tea and moderate service? Then perhaps don't go here. Wait staff was kind, but very slow. Food was hit and miss, fish was not good, other dishes were much better. The tea was not good, and I will not be going sadly. I regretted the decision. Don't make my mistake. If you do, get a reservation, the wait times are long.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in South Bay. It's authentic Japanese, and it's a great place if you have the time to sit, lounge, drink, and have conversations. Service is slower than usual because it was made lovingly by the 2 owners. Worth the wait in a beautiful setting, and I always had patience for their delicious food, even if it was to go. Everything is delicious. Unagi don was insane yums. I am writing this review now in hopes of reaching the owners, who I have heard have retired to Japan. Thanks for all the delicious past meals, free sake events, your great recommendations, and the heart and soul you have put into the restaurant. Our neighborhood will dearly miss you (and your unagi-don, nabeyaki, and ochazuke).

We ate at Hatcho for the first time 2 weeks ago and at the end of the meal the owner said, it may be our last because they are closing the restaurant and retiring back in Japan. Last day would be 12/28. We were seated right away but was told that it'd be a busy night so there may be some wait. Hubby and I sat at the bar and we watched regulars come in and greet the owners. Little did we know, the regulars were coming to savor their last meals at this place. To describe them in one word: AUTHENTIC! After being seated, we waited about 45 minutes before the owner took our order. This restaurant is run by the couple and two wait staff that washes dishes and delivers drinks and food. Thank goodness she came to take our order because hubby was getting hangry! We waited another thirty minutes before the first dish came. It was the Japanese hamburger with a sunny side up egg. The egg was perfect. Crispy edges along the egg whites while the yolk was runny. The hamburger was so juicy and succulent but crunchy on the exterior and smothered, I mean smothered with this luscious sauce. After the first bite, my hubby knew this was worth the wait. The second dish was a grilled rice ball in a clay pot of broth. The broth had chives, enoki mushrooms, and a poached egg with the rice ball. The first sip of the broth made my eyes teary. I haven't had that taste, that flavor since I was in Japan twelve years ago. I had a Ratatouille moment! The broth was so clear but the flavor was so complex and savory. It picked up the grilled/char flavor from the rice ball. I watched hubby partake his first sip and he stopped. He was perplexed. He said this is the first time he wants to capture and remember this taste but was so hungry he wanted to engulf it all in a second. Oh the dilemma! Next came my combo plate. There was Saba shio, shrimp and vegetable tempura, tonkatsu, and sushi. Hands down, the BEST Japanese food outside of Japan. Last came the platter of sushi and nigiri that we ordered. Hamachi, melted the second it hit my tongue. Every piece was better than the last. I'm so sad that they're closing in a week. Hubby wants to make it here another night next week to try other items. Hopefully we can find a seat!

The food was delicious and the owner was so nice the wait it two hours without reservations. One sat down and ordered the food came out pretty fast. It's very authentic and I love the presentation. Unagi and rice with miso soup & sashimi on the side was a dime. It is a family run business and the people here are very well respected and loved we only stayed in line for two hours because everyone in front of us was sad that they are closing by the end of the month and changing owners. People wanted to take pictures with them. I think I'm I have to come back before they close to try their signature dish

I always stop by buying some food in here. I like the fast service and well made food. They never disappoint.

Authentic Japanese home cooking - delicious! Interior kind of feels like a large, older Japanese home. Out of what we ordered, the Salmon Skin roll was AMAZING - one of the best rolls we have had before, fires on so many flavor palettes. Rolls are very affordable - starting from $3.50. The dinner plates are a little more expensive - $15 - 20, but you get a TON of food. Family-owned, they take their time with serving you so don't be in a rush. Will come back!

Haccho is an authentic Japanese restaurant. This place almost made me think "I'm in Japan" The inside of the restaurant looked lovely and nostalgic. We had a birthday party for my friend there. We had a great cozy and private room. It was really nice. The sushi bridge was fantastic. Their raw fish was not only fresh and tasty but also very thick. Definitely the best in the Bay Area. If you like Sashimi or sushi or any real Japanese homemade food, I highly recommend this restaurant. I liked the deep fried food like Karaage and Nimono (which is stewed fish and vegetables.) I would also like to mention that they have a vegetarian menu. I appreciate that they made a special course menu for my vegetarian friend.

You can find traditional Japanese food here. Their sashimi were fresh and sweet, fried tempura were crispy, and vegetables were seasoned just on the spot.

The older lady of the restaurant is nice and sweet. Combination dish is decent. But everything else is disappointing. Despite the long wait that everyone mentions, the waitress is acting rude and cold when we express the hope to sit at another table. The ramen is the worst ramen we’ve ever had in the Bay Area. Sukiyaki is way too salty and beef is not tender. Though I send best wishes that the family business will stay around, I would not come back again.

Service was slightly slow but the staff was fun to talk to and the udon was delicious. Will come again.

Rude service. If you're not Japanese you're not welcome at this place. Starting with a sign telling you that because "they are a family owned business, you should expect slow service (as if good service is an attribute of larger businesses). The owner seems interested and pre-occupied with Japanese customers only, and pretty much ignored us even though we had a reservation in place. "if you don't like it, go somewhere else" - the note says. Sound advice. We went to the Italian place next door and had a fabulous dinner.

I dined here 4 times for dinner in a span of 20 years and each time I dined here, food was always bland. (Whereas I'd dine to a Japanese restaurant and patronize it 20 times in a span of 4 years.) Hatcho is a family-owned and has been in the business for 34 years. However, the service was painfully slow from start to finish when it wasn't even busy! And the food? A deep sigh. Hubby and I chose Hatcho because we wanted to eat right away without the ridiculous wait in other popular restaurants. I called up to let the lady owner know that we were planning to eat here. She said she was looking forward to seeing us. We arrived shortly thereafter. There was nobody at the host area. We waited and waited. The lady owner at the sushi bar saw us but kept ignoring us. She was busy chatting to a diner. The server who was busy serving food was the one who seated us afterwards. To place our order, another 15 minute wait. It is just the owner and the server on the floor. The owner took our order. Food: Grilled Whole Giant Squid with Ginger and Soy Sauce, IKa Shoga Yaki $10. It is giant alright but it tasted fishy and in rubbery texture. It isn't fresh at all! Wanted to ask for lemon wedges but staff wasn't visible on the floor. Plus, there were few pieces of bones in it. The sauce was very bland! Thumbs down! From the Popular Appetizers Menu: Beef and Potato cooked in Sweet Soy, Niku Jaga $6.50. The potatoes were cooked well and the sauce was sweet enough. The beef was so tough to chew that we had it returned! Moments later, it was served again on our table and the beef was somewhat tender. I do not recommend this appetizer! We were so disappointed that we lost our appetite already. Our last entrée was BBQ Eel Over Rice Dinner with a choice of 50/50 Salmon & Tuna and miso soup, Una-Ju Gozen $25. Four slices of large eel and plenty of rice. To my astonishment, the BBQ Eel was tasty! Both tuna and salmon aren't fresh. Tuna tasted mushy and the salmon is gooey taste like. Miso soup is very bland. Dinner had become excruciating! My consolation: I was served with a large cup of hot green tea! The serving wares are authentic Japanese. The ambience is authentic Japanese yet the food is authentically bad! Food is poor quality except for the eel. The server is very nice and she did check on us. The owner checked on us and I didn't say a word to her. Because the server/busser was nice, my husband managed to give a 15% tip out of goodwill. Not for the service nor the food. I fully regret bringing my husband here! Turns out, he paid for an expensive and authentic ambience and serving wares. This is will be our last trip, ever!
